Manhappiness … it’s more than a place, it’s a state of liveliness that is embodied in the always-friendly culture of Manhattan. And the same essence extends to Manhattan’s unique, dynamic dining settings. The choices? Plentiful. With an exquisiteness that lets you know for sure, you’re in The Little Apple®. Tenderloin tips soaked with an impeccable-tasting cognac herb sauce. Small-plate fried chicken and biscuit, dripping with creamy gravy and ultra-satisfying, tonguetantalizing hot honey. The spicy flavor of Jamaican jerk chicken with melodious surroundings that will transport you to an island paradise. For a true dining experience, Manhattan is the spot to enjoy dinner among friends, drinks with loved ones and unparalleled, big gatherings. The truly unique aspects to Manhattan dining are thriving establishments and un-replicated locales. For dynamic, delectable dining, you’ll know you’re in Manhattan! Little Apple … Big Flavor!

Distinctive, quaint stores make shopping in Manhattan a fun adventure all its own! The rustic charm of Manhattan’s downtown shops along Poyntz Avenue make visitors feel like they’ve stepped into a Rockwellian painting. Anchored by Manhattan Town Center, you’ll find fashion, home décor, party planning and much more along the Poyntz corridor. Little Apple ... BIG LANDMARKS
K-Hill: Stand on the veranda of Flint Hills Discovery Center and peer out toward the Kansas River. On the opposite river bank stands a high-reaching hill, and with 80-foot-high letters “K” and “S” for Kansas State (University). Known locally as K-Hill because of the letters, engineering students embedded the letters there nearly a century ago back when the summit was known as Prospect Hill. Tradition holds for students to whitewash the letters each year to keep them in bold, sanitary condition. And no, the “U” has never been added ... for unknown reasons.
CiCo Park: Odd word for a park, huh? Put simply, CiCo Park is a cooperative agreement by the City of Manhattan and Riley County government, along with USD 383. And thus, CiCo Park, which is contained within 97 acres and includes ball fields, a community center, county fairgrounds (Riley County Fair), fitness trail, football stadium, playground, skate park and even a rodeo arena.
Riley County
The pioneer spirit of Kansas is emboldened by the legend of Johnny Kaw, the Great Plains’ colossal agrarian. The gigantic 30-foot statue in City Park bears proof of Johnny’s sizably legendary status. Johnny keeps watch over Manhattan City Hall with his enormous forearms that grip his ever-present sickle. The legend was created by Kansas State horticulture professor George Filinger upon the 1955 city centennial.
Bluemont Hill, aka Manhattan Hill: Bluemont College was the forbearer to Kansas State University by four years, and located just east of the school was the prominent hill and highest elevation in the city. This hill overlooks the Big Blue river valley (plus mont, the French language name for mountain). The letters were placed atop the hill in 1927 by the Manhattan Kiwanis club, an homage to the Hollywood sign in the Los Angeles area. Twitter
Aggieville: This one’s easy. A four square-block area in the hub of Manhattan that is easily accessible from Kansas State University campus and the Downtown Manhattan/Poyntz Avenue corridor. The university’s origins as an agricultural school – and subsequent initial “Aggies” school nickname -- earned the area its long-distinguished designation. For years, Aggieville was known as the city’s “uptown” area. Businesses observed the district’s 125-year anniversary with a weekend-long celebration in 2014.
