SECURITY Depend on Us for Security There is nothing more important to us than knowing that our end users’ online financial transactions are private and secure. Our systems are secured with encryption, perimeter and internal firewalls, screening and filtering routers, intrusion detection, strict authentication, virus protection, as well as application security. Application security includes a double-blind process for issuing PINs, user lockouts due to failed login, and additional encryption of sensitive user data during sessions. Our network architecture is structured so the servers that store actual account information are not directly connected to the Internet.

Confidentiality Security is strengthened by your efforts in keeping all account and login data confidential. Never share your password with anyone and never include account specific details within an unsecured e-mail.

Passwords The most secure passwords are those which use a combination of alpha-numeric and special characters. Avoid using easily obtained personal data within your password, such as initials and birth dates or loved ones’ names.

Signing Off If you must step away from your work computer for even a moment while using the Online Banking system, be sure to click Log Out to ensure your account data is not reviewed or altered by unauthorized individuals.

ENHANCED LOGIN SECURITY In addition to your personal password security, Columbia Bank provides additional security measures with Enhanced Online Security or ELS. ELS strengthens the safeguards in place at log in by adding steps to verify your identity. Although these security enhancements are benefiting you and your security, your day-to-day experience will change very little, if at all. Once your authentication steps are in place, you can continue to manage your finances online as you always have. Part of this identification process includes recognizing the computer you normally use to access Online Banking. This information, coupled with your normal login details, is incorporated into your online identity profile. You will have three options to receive a One-Time Passcode (OTP) by voice, text or e-mail, which will be used to authenticate you as a user. When you log in, you will enter your Username and Password as normal, and you may be prompted to answer your challenge question as well. This is especially likely if you are logging in on a computer you do not normally use. Simply select how you would like to receive your OTP. An OTP will be sent to you via your selected method. Enter your OTP in order to access your accounts. You will be presented with one Challenge Question to answer. You will be asked this question if you have forgotten or need to reset your password by clicking on the “Forgotten Password Feature. You will also be asked to answer this question if you do not have access to any of the three OTP options. Enhanced Login Security (ELS) is another layer of login security. The default is Public, however you may select Private. An example of when to select Public would be if the computer you are currently using is only being used for that one time and/or it may be used by many individuals (such as a library or school computer). If the computer you are currently using is your personal computer you may want to choose Private. The difference between Public and Private is whether or not you are prompted to enter an OTP. Public prompts the OTP for that computer and Private does NOT, unless you have entered an incorrect Username.
