When Summit’s community of entrepreneurs, innovators, thought leaders and artists rallied to save Powder Mountain from the scourge of massive overdevelopment in 2013 they countered with a simple vision: keep Powder Mountain’s magical experience intact by harnessing its natural beauty, and making it a year-round place for their purpose-driven community to gather, play, plan, learn, create and innovate. Surrounded by calls to adventure, inspiring settings, and a diverse, collaborative community Powder Mountain could be much more than just a secret playground for skiers and adventurers. It would become an idea hub where solutions to problems big and small emerge on a chairlift rides to the top, hikes overlooking the Ogden Valley, or long-table outdoor dining with Neighbors.

MASTER PLAN Our 10,000+/- acre master plan is grounded with the overlying goal to cluster limited development in select areas of our mountain-top setting while preserving over two-thirds as permanent open space. Project entitlements allow for 2,800+/- equivalent residential units that will likely manifest as 3,5004,000 total residential units/hotel rooms plus commercial and community space integrated into the community’s six main villages. Given the community’s unique inverted topography (living at the top as opposed to the mountain’s base), virtually all of our neighborhoods have ski-in/ski-out access, direct to trail without waiting in a lift line. Lower density villages are tucked into the outlying, forested mountain folds and density increases towards the village core where boutique hotels, meeting places, shops, restaurants, galleries and innovation incubators create the social hub of this intentional community.

SUMMIT POWDER MOUNTAIN PAST IMPROVEMENTS

In its f irst phase, the project was able to secure overall zoning and associated regulatory entitlements, secure necessary water rights, construct initial wells and water storage, extend the main roadway and utilities to the village core, build 2 new ski lifts and expanded the resort’s ski and mountain-biking terrain to 8,500+/- total acres, build the member’s Sky Lodge and renovate others to host community events, plus built and sold 160 homesites and residences in 8 distinct neighborhoods leading from the existing resort facilities to the new village core area.

WHATS HAPPENING NOW •

Phase 2 has launched with new neighborhoods recently paved and about to get underway, plus dozens of additional residences sold and under construction.

The community’s unique “heritage modern” style has attracted some of the world ’s top architects who are creating a sculpture garden of residences in a national park-like setting.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

The initial phase of the village core is now under design with innovative mountain resort builder/ developer partners set to deliver compelling luxury stacked f lat condo, loft, townhome and village home offerings, plus boutique hotels, hospitality residences, extended stay and hostelstyle lodging offerings. The next phase of community amenities,

including the Pioneer Cabin neighborhood amenity, an expansion to the Sky Lodge, a Village Tavern and a villagecore recreational and community center are under design. •

The renovation/ expansion of resort facilities and the village core in various stages of design and implementation.

While the list of physical improvements and projects continues to grow, what is truly unique is the fact that a new kind of mountain resort community is emerging.
