Residential space in Hueston Woods.

I

have designed a weekend home for two male friends who decided to build in

The

Hueston Woods State Park. biggest part of my design was figur-

ing out a way to balance the contrast between shared space and private space in their home.

Each

man had a list of things

that was important to them that they wanted incorporated.

Selecting

the most crucial,

I

came up

with the plan to use the middle of the home as a core for the two of them to spend time.

Each

of them has their own

side with private space.

king cafe.

an existing cafe in king library resides off of a dreary gravel parking lot. i transformed the space into one that functions as a space for students to study, use as an extenstion of the existing cafe, and cross through on the way to other destinations. this space is located in a critical part of miami university and is seen from many angles. wooden and metal beams cross eachother and and connect the interior with the exterior. while respecting the buildings integrity, this design creates a desirable space for any type of student. there is a

drop from the sidewalk to ground level. i

chose to create large steps that people can hang out on and dig into the hill itself, creating a more secluded space.

the clifton community deserves a space to gather together. one which inspires creativity and collaboration. the expression and visibility in the geometric form is meant to stand out while pulling people in. push and pull motions permeate the interior and create zones within the building and dictate their function, while still providing many open spaces.
