Hailing from Kerala, I have completed my B.Arch graduation from College of Architecture Trivandrum. Post this, I have been working as an Architect at Sandarbh Design Studio for the past 2 years. I

CORNER COTTAGE


The Project Sam and Linda are middle aged couples, working as IT professionals at Infosys. Corner Cottage is the perfect getaway for them from their busy, monotonous coorporate life they lead.

A 2 bedroom house with a living space, kitchen, dining space and a pool. Large windows and open spaces with a minimalistic interior style is preferred. As this house will not be regularly used; they don’t require much space for storage. An aesthetic space integrated with the landscape that helps to destress from within.


The Space The house as been designed in 2 levels; Ground floor consisiting of the living, foyer, 1 bedroom with attached bathroom, kitchen, dining and a beautiful outdoor space with a pool offering a great view of the open air. First floor consisting of a large bedroom with elegant fenestrations offering beautiful views of the outdoors. All units are in meter

Ground floor - foyer

Foyer The entry to the house opens upto the foyer with the living on the left. Open floor plan; simple yet functional layout has been followed. Quality over quantity has been thoroughly followed in this design. Spacious rooms with minimal furniture and details have been carefully planned and implemented.

Bedroom The first floor contains the bedroom, walk in wardrobe and a bathroom. This space has large windows on 3 sides and a large french window that opens to a small balcony space overlooking the garden outside. Furniture pieces that are understated and powerful enough to balance the room has been used throughout.

The backyard contains an open pool with a semi open outdoor seating space. There is direct entry to the kitchen as well as the inside dining space from here. Natural wood cladding on the exterior gives this home a dark look with gravity and depth.

II

IINILA NILARESIDENCE


The Project Lijo and Suby, settled in New Zealand wanted a house done for their parents back home in Kerala. Lijo is a doctor and Suby an engineer; they come down every 6 months for a month’s vacation. Nila has been designed as per their request. A 2 bedroom house with a living, dining, kitchen, courtyard, reading and study. An additional clinic space has also been provided for consultation during the time of their visits. A contemporary space with warm interiors has been incoorporated in the design.

The Space A single storeyed house spread vertically, with double height ceilings in the central common spaces have been provided. There is a segregation of public, semi-public and private spaces vertically across the house. The right side entrance is directly to the clinic for patients who comes for consultation. The left side entrance leads to the foyer space inside the house. Courtyard spaces and balconies have been provided to integrate the external landscape into the space inside. 17

Dining The dining space is in the semi public zone next to the open kitchen on the right side. You can step out into beautiful garden space outside through french windows that opens from this space. Smooth and clean furnitures with decor forms the essence of the space inside.

Courtyard This is a semi open space leading to the landscape outside. There is a small seating space along with planters providing a nice cozy place for reading and the sorts. The spaces are filled with plenty of natural and warm colours; focusing on form and aestetic charm.

Foyer Foyer is the first space you see as you enter the house. Furnitures made out of wood with natural fabric on couches have been used throughout. Bold colour and geometric patterns have been brought into the design with pillows, rug or a throw.

Floor and table lamps with sleek metallic finishes. Spot lights and recessed lights draws attention to well placed art and accessories. Neutral colours on the walls with bright and bold coloured accessories have been used throughout.

Master bedroom The bedroom space consists of a walk in wardrobe and an attached bathroom. Large beautiful french window opens to a balcony that overlooks the beautiful garden outside. Planters and seaters out in the balcony provides a comfortable space for one to sip tea and get a breathe of fresh air.

Neutral tones of grey, brown, black and white for the flooring, furnishings, lighting fixtures with bold coloured fabrics and accessories as decors have been used. Clean and elegant planters have been used to add life and colour to the interiors. 23

SANDARBH DESIGN STUDIO


GEM VILLA RESIDENCE : construction project Mr. R. K Raman and his wife Sheela resides in Zambia. Their requirement was 2 fully furnished 3 BHK houses, located in Whitefield, that they can rent out to tenants nearby. The structure of the building was completed when we took over the project. We were mainly focusing on finishing the remaining electrical and plumbing works, tiling, carpentry and painting finishes. As a part of the project management team, I have worked on generating an overall task list containing the activities required to complete the project. Project schedules and timelines were generated from this master list and regular updates were provided to the clients. THE FIVE SUMMITS : apartment interior project Mr. Biju and his wife Lakshmi work in the I.T industry at Whitefield. They had approached us to do the interiors of a new flat they had purchased in the same area. A 2 BHK unfurnished apartment in a posh location at Whitefield. Main focus of activities includes overall carpentry, minor electrical changes, kitchen dado and overall painting finishes.

Project Managament

For this project, an M.S Project sheet was created in order to give an estimate of the overall project timeline to the clients. This list was also useful to track the site work on a daily basis. Coordinated with the site team in order to create daily and weekly target list. This was done to ensure that there was minimal deviation of activities in the critical path.

JANAKI SADAN : residence renovation Mr. Suresh and his wife Deepthi have been in Kuwait for the past 26 years. They had approached us to do the renovation work of their house down in Thalassery, Kerala. 2 storeyed 4 bedroom house with living, dining, kitchen and other spaces. The new design includes small changes in the overall structure, electrical and plumbing changes and final interior finishes. The clients prefer the traditional style used in the house to be followed in the additional spaces that were being added.
