Internships We run paid undergraduate and graduate internship programmes so that students can boost their employability while they earn. Springboard, our campus-based internship programme, is flexible enough to be fitted around studying. Enterprise Do your students have a passion, talent or dream? We can work with them to explore how their ideas could be developed into a commercial venture or social enterprise. MyCareerCentral launches in Spring/Summer 2014 and provides a single access point for careers services and information, including appointments, vacancies, events and resources.

WHAT CAN CAREERS ADVICE AND GUIDANCE GIVE MY STUDENTS? Options explored and directions clarified Our team of professionally trained careers advisers can support students whether they have a few or no career ideas. CVs and applications CareerCentral works with students on all aspects of job applications. From writing a CV to honing interview skills and participating in psychometric testing.

More School-based ways for students to develop their employability – Work-based learning (placements on course) – External visits or field trips – Work-related learning modules – Become a School representative or ambassador – Join School-based student societies – Mentor fellow students – School-specific careers events – Attend careers adviser drop-in sessions in School What else can I do to help my students? Have they looked at their School Blackboard Jobs and Careers resource for announcements and information? Ask about their career aspirations earlier rather than later. If they have no ideas or don’t know how to get started, direct them to CareerCentral.

How can I encourage my students? Ask what else they are doing at university outside of their academic work. If they are applying for jobs, have they sought feedback on their CV and applications? Urge them to attend campus and School-based careers events. Remind them that extracurricular involvement can also help improve their academic performance and confidence. Connecting with employers Each year our programme of more than 250 events includes careers fairs, alumni events, employer presentations, skills workshops and training, and enterprise support.
