Chairman’s Chat Welcome to the October edition of the SAM Observer magazine. We have some great evenings coming up over the next few months so thought I would give you a taster so that you can put the dates in your diary. Next month (Tuesday 16th November) we are being entertained by SAM member Dr David Wood who will be talking to us about climate change and the effect that it will have on our lives and also our motorcycling! I gather that it is likely to be thought provoking and will no doubt stimulate a lively debate. The Christmas Party will be on Tuesday 14th December and, as always, will be open to family and friends. Full details are on page 7. Tickets are now available to purchase on Group Night. Alternatively you can contact John Sillett by email email@example.com or phone him on 01473 219488 to reserve. For January’s group night (Tuesday 18th January) we have Austin Vince presenting to us. I am sure that is a name familiar to many of you and I can assure you that this is an event not to be missed. A quote found on the web describing a presentation by Austin says “Without doubt the most funny entertaining evening ever, fantastic stories of travels around the world, the reasons why he did it and the reasons everybody should do it”. February's group night (Tuesday 15th) will as always be the AGM. We will be starting at 19:30 sharp because as soon as the formalities are out of the way the evening will be dedicated to the Annual SAM Quiz. Mike Roberts has once again prepared the multimedia quiz for what is one of the most enjoyable evenings on the SAM calendar. For this month's group night we welcome back to the club Karen Finch from the Hearing Care Centre. Those of you who have seen Karen present to us before will know how interesting this is. Karen will be explaining the long term effects of noise on our hearing and the importance of earplugs for motorcycling. See page 15. Phew! Start filling the diary. Have a good month. Richard.
