Reinhold Messner’s Juval Castle is not just a castle, it’s an entire work of art! The extreme mountaineer established his private residence here, and his museum displays the sensational myth of the mountain. The Unterortl vineyard that abuts the castle, along with the organic Oberortl farm and the castle restaurant are all part the overall concept that was implemented to bring this small cultural landscape in South Tyrol to life, and to sustain it. The bare, vertical cliffs opposite Juval Castle were opened in 2015 as the “Hoachwool”, a superb water irrigation channel. It leads past imposing cliffs and striking rock formations along a route that was inspired by the line traced by the historical Senales-Naturno water irrigation channel, an irrigation channel leading from Senales/ Schnals to Naturno. Juval and the “Hoachwool” have always been surrounded by legends. Everyone who has visited the place tells us it is legendarily fabulous.
Climbing wall Unterstell The “Hoachwool” via ferrata is only suited to expert and experienced mountaineers. However, three new and more accessible via ferrate were recently completed beneath the lookout point near the Unterstell cable car mountain station, enabling the not so experienced and aspiring mountaineers to also experience the thrill of climbing. After a day in the outdoors, climbers can tuck into a mouth-watering South Tyrolean platter in one of the ubiquitous mountain taverns.
