Depending on the individuals ability to digest lactose, these dietary changes can be as simple as decreasing the amount of lactose consumed. Or the solution can be more complicated. Many people find that their symptoms decrease by consuming milk or milk products with meals rather than on their own, when symptoms might be worse. Some individuals find relief when they choose to eat milk products such as yogurt or hard cheese that have lower levels of lactose content than regular milk. Individuals who still experience symptoms even after making changes to their diet can take overthe-counter drops or tablets of a lactase enzyme. This remedy can be taken while consuming milk or the products that contain milk. When more of an intolerance is present, individuals may turn to an entire change in their dietary and nutritional plan.
