I think, “Hey girlfriend, you did that all by yourself! Wooot ... yay me!”. I also love the decorating side of the design. Fabrics and art are one of my favourite go-tos for changing the look and overall feeling of a space. It’s such a pleasure for me to take a client’s brief, understanding it and delivering them the best version of what they think they want. Of course, great bones make the best interiors. But I love the challenge of taking essentially quite bad architecture and turning the space into something magazine-cover ready! It’s the most rewarding experience one could ever have. My style is something of a hybrid developed over many years of dealing with clients. It's eclectic, a mish-mash of Plantation-British Raj, sprinkled with pops of French Colonial, Chinoiserie, Deco
and anything that takes my fancy! And clients really love it — Some of their favourite pieces are ones I've literally plucked from the side of the road, repurposed and made on-trend. A good designer should be able to translate their clients' wants and needs — it’s not about us as designers. I do though, have a penchant for go-big-orgo-home mentality but understand that’s not always what my client requires. I also try to gently challenge my clients into pushing some boundaries — designing for the architecture. I guess as the daughter of an architect I have a natural sympatico.
