Ok Jane, tell us your story! I started designing in 1990 ... eek, but it didn’t start out that way – originally I was a model and studied to become an actor when I left school. I had just married and had my first child, and was working in the family restaurant business as well as modelling! Although my first husband wasn’t mad on me being an actor … so I booted him! Later, I was working in another family business making and marketing boogie boards and surf skis, as well as training as a personal trainer (I also appeared in Channel 10’s Aerobic Oz Style — please stop laughing!!!!)
Still hankering to live the life of a designer, but not quite there yet, I dabbled in a small graphic design business creating my own handcrafted designs and handprinted clothing. When I had my youngest son, I decided to spend some time studying interior design. That was in 1989: the rest as they say in the classics, is history! In 1990, my wonderful mother and I founded our design business. Mum was already an interior designer working in my father’s architectural practice, so she came to the business with plenty of experience — I’ve always had this weird and somewhat unearthly attraction to interiors and the art of design, which I have inherited from my parents.
