his is our favorite time of year. When everything feels all fresh and new and ready to begin again, building on what we've done well and letting go of missteps. And as we look back through the days and months of 2012, we can't help but smile. Because 2012 was a good year on Style Me Pretty. It was the year that the bar for what is beautiful was raised even higher than we thought it could be. It was the year that we walked into a bookstore and saw our brand sitting pretty on a store shelf. It was the year that we partnered with one of the largest brands in the media space, AOL, to build a site that will thrive in a way that we always thought we would. 2012 was a good year for Style Me Pretty. It was our year.

But it wasn't just ours. Not even close. It was those hundreds of brides and grooms that let us into their day. That gave us a window into their loves, their lives, their weddings. It was the year of laid back lovely with effortlessly beautiful florals and chic but approachable design taking center stage. It was the year that brides let down their hair, and more than ever, planned the weddings of their dreams, allowing ceremony and tradition to give them a foundation for whimsy and spunk. It was quite a year, 2012, and one that will forever go down in the books as one of the best for SMP and the readers that have allowed us to take the journey with them. Over the past 12 months we've been quietly noting the celebrations that have left the longest lasting impression. The ones that brides and grooms favorited, saving to their SMP dashboards so that they could share with vendors and friends and family. The ones that people liked on facebook and gabbed about in comments. The weddings that resonated on some level with you, our readers, and inspired you to share or save or gush. This magazine is a collection of the top 5 weddings in each of the following categories: Most Comments, Most Favorites, Most Facebook Likes. Some overlapped between categories and in those cases, we pulled another one in so that you could see 15 totally unique weddings. Then, just to spice things up, we've added the favorites of each of our editors here at SMP. So when you sit down with your morning coffee (or your afternoon bubbly), you'll have one beautifully curated edition of 2012's most beloved celebrations. Large and small, luxe and budget. These are the most adored of the adored, with a cover chosen exclusively by our readers. And we couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome.

From the bride

Both of us being designers, we wanted to find a space that would allow us to put our own special spin on the look and feel of the day. 14 BEST OF 2012

lace details and lavender galore

From the beginning we agreed to keep the color palette very simple — just shades of white, ivory and gray to soften the New York industrial interior of The Foundry. We used rustic elements to remind us of the Oregon Coast where Andy grew up vacationing and we have shared many happy trips together.

We wanted an event that was intimate, casually sophisticated and filled with warm candlelight, wonderful wine and food. 16 BEST OF 2012

We knew we wanted our wedding to be a celebration of the two of us and the things we hold most dear.

From Amy of Amy Kaneko Events

Julie and Sam’s wedding, which took place on a grassy estate, was incredibly elegant and understated. 24 BEST OF 2012

Julie, the bride, is a graphic designer who runs a studio specializing in paper and wedding goods. It was really wonderful to collaborate with someone who has such raw talent. She really personalized all of the wedding’s printed materials — from the watercolor invitation suite and woodburned escort coasters to the handpainted signs and custom menus. stylemepretty.com 25

The dĂŠcor was fairly simple because the surroundings were naturally beautiful. The aisle was accented with gardenias and dahlias, and the guestbook table was adorned with beautiful centerpieces from Chestnut & Vine.

Strands of colorful paper cranes hung from a central tree — Julie’s mom had folded 1,000 paper cranes for good luck!

A story of love and family and how they beat Hurricane Irene

Photography By Kay English Photography

From the bride The beautiful pictures you see depict not what I imagined it would be, but what I wouldn’t trade for the world. After all, behind all the glitz and glamour of a modern day wedding, is it not really just about two people vowing to love, cherish and honor each other for the rest of their lives?

BEST OF 2012

36 BEST OF 2012

I remember the moment so vividly. My sister, and maid of honor, looked at me frankly and said, “What do you want to do? You know, we’ve always said someone should get married at Lynette’s house.” (Lynette is a close family friend with an AMAZING outdoor landscape.) And that was all took…

From Beth of Beth Helmstetter Events Jacey was a small town Texas girl with a love for charm and nostalgia for her hometown.

72 BEST OF 2012

Moving to LA many years ago to pursue her love for fashion, she also fell in love with Grant, a developer with a passion for the environment and urban style.

After Grant proposed, they agreed the SmogShoppe would be the perfect spot to blend Southern sensibility and style while staying environmentally friendly. We worked with Jacey to transform the super LA space into one that was still comfortable for her Texas family and friends. stylemepretty.com 73

For the ceremony, Jacey was in love with the idea of creating an outdoor living room in the SmogShoppe courtyard. We had a custom wall created to fit the space, covered it with burlap wall covering and hung reclaimed wood frames filled with beautiful prints as the backdrop.

From Laurie of Laurie Arons Special Events Jenny and Jordan’s love story was a modern day fairy tale: boy sees girl in crowded cafe, girl flashes him an unforgettable smile, boy posts ad on Craigslist Missed Connections to find her, and girl, with a little convincing from her friends, sees the ad and contacts him.

BEST OF 2012

The venue they selected, Durham Ranch in St. Helena California, has a fresh, preppy feel with its clean white barn and pool deck, complete with nautical stripes and lifesavers.

In keeping with this fresh, relaxed tone, the bride chose a soft palette of gray, taupe and white, kissed with a just little color from the pale pink florals.

A swoon-worthy stunner that will stand the test of time

Photography By Matt Blum Photography

stylemepretty.com 103

From the bride

I’m somewhat of a perfectionist, so I like to think that a good amount of thought and planning went into every single detail.

BEST OF 2012

The dĂŠcor and overall design elements had sort of a vintage-glamour look, from the lace, linen and vintage vanity mirrors used for table numbers to the all white floral and candlelight.

In terms of colors we went with timeless classics: black, white, silver and gray. We knew we wanted a formal wedding, but we didn’t want our guests to think it was going to be so formal that it wasn’t going to be a good time.

stylemepretty.com 105

In order to set a fun tone for the event, we worked with the amazing Gretchen Berry of Watermark Stationery to create the perfect wedding suite, which added a whimsical element with an accordion fold-out invitation placed in a mini envelope and custom calligraphy from a local talent, Crystal Kluge.

118 BEST OF 2012

Our “boutique wedding” theme was rustic, romantic, ethereal, relaxed, and vintage but elegant with a touch of rock 'n' roll. Somewhat of a Gatsby in wine country.

Victoria’s skin glowed, and her overall look was dramatic while at the same time soft and romantic. A perfect look for the modern bride!

For her hair, the whole goal was for it to look as effortless as possible. We used a textured hair creme to give it a piecey look and enhanced the natural wave of her hair by taking different-sized pieces of hair and wrapping them around a medium size ceramic curling iron.

Swoon-worthy florals in a beautiful backyard fĂŞte

Photography By Christine Chang Photography 126 BEST OF 2012

stylemepretty.com 127

As a floral designer, Chandra knew she wanted flowers to play a large role in the aesthetics of the event.

BEST OF 2012

The flowers had to be pieces that would be hardy enough for her to create in advance so that she wasn’t left racing the clock, and of course, they had to live up to the beautiful venue and still create the garden-chic look she was going for.

Chandra created a different bouquet composed of a single type of flower for each of her nine bridesmaids, with all nine types of flowers included in her bridal bouquet.

Chandra and Tony were married in the intimate setting of her brother’s backyard — a private estate with almost canyon-like qualities — hillsides lined with century old trees surrounded by white garden roses, nasturtium and lavender, peppered by unique homes on the overlooking edge. The yard was almost completely renovated for the wedding, with every last inch made to serve a purpose.

Wedding style, perfected

Photography By The Nichols

From the bride Michael and I live in New York City, but we travel to Austin, Texas, often to visit my family. We both love it so much that we decided the night we got engaged that a hill country celebration would be perfect for us.

BEST OF 2012

What was also very special was that I wore my mother’s veil that she wore when she married my dad 42 years ago!

And for my wedding gown, I was lucky enough to have the privilege of working with Monique Lhuillier! Using mom’s veil as our starting point of inspiration, Monique designed my absolute dream gown.

The most important part to us was the ceremony itself. We had a traditional Catholic mass ceremony, and we included some Hispanic traditions like the exchanging of the arras (coins that represent the groom’s promise to provide for his family, and the bride’s promise to properly use and care for their money) and the traditional lasso (a figure-eight loop that is placed over the bride and groom to represent a lifetime of unity).

We also love sugar, so our sweets table was filled with three different cake flavors and all our personal favorites like University of Texas Longhorns sugar cookies (my fave) and s’mores tarts (Michael’s fave).

178 BEST OF 2012

From the bride We chose San Francisco because it was between our schools where we first met. However, given that we fell in love in NYC where we spent five years together, we wanted to bring things we loved about NYC to San Francisco as well: modern elements mixed with classic, old-world elegance, a little bit of fashion and cocktails with a twist. stylemepretty.com 179

We were also lucky to get some key advice early on: prioritize in the beginning of the planning process and stick to it. Later on, I was tempted to consider and implement every idea, but our earlier thoughts helped us stick to our guns!

There were so many magical moments on our wedding day. Walking through Union Square toward Albert for our first look. Seeing all of my favorite people in the world as I walked down the aisle. Riding the trolley around the city with the best friends one could ask for (and them singing at the top of their lungs). We wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Vintage chic with an urban flair Photography By Elisabeth Millay Photography

Choosing a favorite wedding is never easy. But there is just something about this particular celebration that I couldn't tear myself away from...the pretty, classic approach to design with a sense of effortless romance threaded into every detail. For me, this is true love.

As a designer and art director, the regal, yet undone setting inspired me, and I knew there would be opportunity to create many beautiful projects to suit the space and surround our guests with details that reflect us. 188 BEST OF 2012

The tables were dressed in pale gray linens with an assortment of mercury glass vases of varying sizes, tapers and votive candle holders. Our floral designer, Saipua, used lush blooms in pale pink, coral, aubergine, cream, and dusty greens for the arrangements that were placed in silver, footed bowls.

Timeless romance amongst the English countryside

Photography By Aaron Delesie

stylemepretty.com 217

From David Pressman Events Late into the evening of a recent Thanksgiving tucked away in the rolling hills of the English countryside, on the grounds of the members only club Babington House, newlyweds Heather and Neal Callow stood together and gazed upward as an incredible display of fireworks lit up the sky in honor of their wedding which had taken place just hours before.

BEST OF 2012

From the very start the bride wanted simplicity and understated style in everything she and her groom-to-be chose. From the save-the-dates — hand-drawn by Neal, a talented art director with an impressive list of credits behind him — to the simplicity of the flowers — roses, hydrangeas and ranunculus — all the way to the wedding cake prepared by the best friend of the groom’s mother.

Married earlier in the day at St. Andrew’s Church in the village of Mells in the English county of Somerset, the church tower, from 1446, had rung its bells in honor of this glorious marriage.

Despite the grandeur of the setting, this wedding was all about fun, family and creating great memories and the guiding principal behind the design and execution for this wedding was the 1939 English saying, "Keep Calm and Carry On."
