The Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg Tradition embraces the future. In Concert One, pianist David Jalbert, with his spirited and communicative style, lets you hear why he’s the flag-bearer of a new generation (Oct 6). And in Concert Two, a proud native of Ste. Rose du Lac, Everett Hopfner, showcases his enthusiasm for contemporary music (Nov 10). Concerts at The Winnipeg Art Gallery. The Winnipeg Singers - Inspiring selections of choral performances this new season! Concert 1 pays tribute to St. Cecilia with organist Lottie Enns-Braun and a new composition by Michael McKay. Also, Britten’s 100th birthday is cause for hearing his finest choral works (Nov 22). Crescent Fort Rouge United Church hosts all performances. Winnipeg Folk Festival: Fantastic sounds from folk this autumn. Pioneering Michael Franti and his band Spearhead hit the Burton Cummings Theatre with an unforgettably high energy show (Sep 29). The West End Cultural Centre welcomes bad boy Lee Harvey Osmond with his rockin’ folk sinnin’ (Oct 4). Austra also returns in support of their baroque and fantastical Olympia at the Garrick Centre (Oct 5). Again at the Garrick, pop meets punk as Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls tackle raw emotions with catchy tunes (Oct 26).

DANCE Royal Winnipeg Ballet - The 2013-14 season already has sell-outs! Get your seat for some dynamic dance! A world premiere kicks it off; The Handmaid’s Tale adapts Margaret Atwood’s iconic dystopian novel into a dark romantic dance drama (Oct 16-20). Performance at Centennial Concert Hall. And sadly, Q Dance’s program of eclecticism and risk has completely sold out its 2013 run! But, luckily, two more performances have been added (Nov 16 with matinée). Performances at Gas Station Arts Centre. Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers WCD’s 49th season opens with Nuit Blanche (Sept 28, Rachel Browne Theatre) and within Culture Days for Dance Downtown (Sept 29, RWB’s Founders Studio). Hungry for more? The annual Prairie Dance Circuit features flatlanders at their best. Prolific Saskatchewanbased dance artist Robin Poitras and Reginabased Johanna Bundon and Bee Pallomina all present engaging new work.
