REALISTIC RESOLUTIONS Break the cycle this year and make a commitment you can actually keep, writes Sophie Catsoulis. AS THE CLOCK strikes midnight on January 1, many people start to (drunkenly) profess grand plans for the year to come. These ridiculous resolutions can include everything from regrettable (but so on-trend) haircuts to soon-to-be-unused gym memberships. But there’s a way that you can save time and energy, and I’m going to let you in on the secret: resolutions should be realistic. While the new year brings with it a sense of hope and the perfect time to begin to better yourself, setting unfeasible (or unappealing) objectives is simply setting yourself up for failure and disappointment. Instead, why not strive for something more suitable? For the workaholic: Forget setting your sights on stacks of extra work; aim to set aside some

time each week just for you. Put down the phone, pack away the proposals and marvel at your increased productivity. For the newly-single: Try out a new hobby or pick up an old passion. It could be playing music, running marathons or baking – just put the past out of your mind. You could even meet someone like-minded along the way! For the ambitious athlete: Don’t lock yourself into a contract at the gym. If you’re keen to get fit, start with something free and fun. Grab a (furry) friend and take a hike, or download an app and get active at home. For the family-focused: Shake your home-life rut and mix up the activities on the family front. Spend time with loved ones doing something totally new. Go-karting? Count me in!
