Primary among the many energy efficiency measures adopted is the installation of 100% LED lights at all railway buildings and fixtures - only BEE Star rated equipment is used in railway applications. All new railway stations are being built on a netzero-energy building concept. With the objective of reducing GHG emissions, 23 Driving Power Cars (DPCs) have been converted to dual fuel systems (Diesel + LNG/CNG) – a first of a kind project on the Railways system with LNG on board fuel storage. Retro-fitment of Micro-processor control systems in diesel locomotives have further enhanced fuel efficiency. 4% saving in fuel consumption has been realized at Eng Test Bed with the use of CReDI on ALCo locomotive engine and 2.5% saving in fuel consumption on HHP locomotives.
