Pig Tails 2008 Board of Directors

Director’s Corner July is now upon us, so let the fireworks begin (clever don’t you think with it being July and all….?) At the writing of this letter, we are returning from Panama where the rum flowed freely, and sleep was a luxury, so if I babble more than normal just attribute it to sleep deprivation and alcohol saturation. Here we go………! Oh, and just for the record, the rum of choice is Abuelo….some pretty smooth sh…, of course, I mean crap…. (a mere bargain at $5.85 in the local grocery store). As I am trying to get this newsletter started (again) it has come to mind that several things have occurred since the last newsletter. First being the primary officer training, affectionately referred to as POT (no, not that pot), The major business conducted was the doling out of nicknames such as (my personal favorite) Slider aka Alex; Muffin aka Matt; Cabbie aka Clay; and Killer aka Neal. No I did not receive a nickname during this time. See folks, there are benefits to being director…!!!!! The second thing was the State Rally. A HUGE hats off to Cheryl and Dan for all of their work on the state committee. I think that they showed those east river folks a thing or two about organization…nice job guys. It

was evident from the first night that there were two distinct Rapid City groups at this rally. The ones that played pitch all night and the ones that drank all night. (three guesses which one I was in…) For the pitch players, I understand that Cliff and Joannie both figured out how to bid 8 and get a 9 bid without having the 3. Creative counting going on maybe…. it’s no wonder that I chose to be in the drinking group. I do understand the concept of “Team Drink” (Killer’s brainchild and Boulter was only too happy to carry on with that tradition…) but that creative bidding I will leave to the ‘experts.’ I also need to thank Neal, I mean Killer, and Dave for leading and organizing all of the hungover drunks on fun and exciting rides during this time. The Sturgis Rally is right around the corner and with that comes a flurry of activity. With that in mind, we need to be extra careful with our riding skills. Plainly put BE CAREFUL AND DRIVE DEFENSIVELY. Another reason is a member of our HOG family, Wayne Lewis, was in a serious accident coming home from Deadwood in the middle of June. If it hadn’t been for his quick thinking and above board driving skills, the situation would’ve been much worse. He is doing wonderfully, recovering nicely, and looking great! Update on upcoming events: the overnight weekend ride to Wyoming has been cancelled and in lieu of that a fund raiser for Wayne has been scheduled

in its stead. There will be more information about this later. Next, is the golf outing for September 6th at the Southern Hills Golf Course. Rooms have been set aside at the Holiday Inn Express (605-745-4411 – rooms under Black Hills HOG) at a rate of $94.99 per night. They are located across the street from the restaurant/bar where the evening activities are being held. We also have rooms that are available at the Best Western Sundowner Inn (605-745-7378 – Scott Haden contact person) at a rate of $79.99 per night. They are located one mile north of the restaurant. We have not secured shuttle transportation to and from the Sundowner as of yet. Lastly, with the rally coming up, there will be sign-up sheets for volunteers to cover the Information Booth in the near future, so keep checking. We will have more information on this during the Thursday night rides. Okay guys, I really have to get some sleep. Running on rum fumes isn’t a pretty sight, plus my secretary aka Kelly, has threatened me with bodily harm if I make her keep typing. Those rum fumes have also affected her as well. Go figure……….. See you on the road!!!! Until next time, Marty

OK, it’s just about upon us! You know – the BIG one. In less than a month, we’ll be hosting most of the bikers in the known world! It’s an event so huge that we start planning for it in September! There is still a lot of fun going on in July, though. We’ve got poker runs, benefits, and parties happening all month long. One of the benefits I speak of is for Wayne Lewis, who was injured in an accident near Sturgis on June 19th. Wayne is a great guy, and he and his wife, Arlis have been loyal BHHD customers for years. We’re going to see if we can help defray some of the medical bills. Please join us!

from out of town, who will be giving us a hand during the Rally, so if you aren’t recognized as a local, please don’t be offended. As a matter of fact, you may want to get your H-D shopping out of the way before the Rally, so as to escape crowds and lines! There will be lots of vendors on the lot selling things you don’t ordinarily see, so please come on out and participate in the fun! This month’s Words of Fuzzy Wisdom:
