MY DESIGNS

HENRY RICHARDS

This project sits on the confluence site in York. It embraces local environmental challenges through a tiered landscaping system, allowing the building to remain accessible throughout the flooding season. Functioning as a place for leisure, as well as council offices, the building contains shared public /private realm, and adds to the riverside hospitality industry - introducing a plethora of bars, restaurants and cafe’s to southern York.

EMBRACING THE FLOODING

These diagrams show how the tiered landscape changes respond to different water flood levels, displaying year round usability. Flooding has been a focus of this scheme, research conducted on environmental solutions to the site.

ELEVATION & SECTION

This project sits on the confluence site in York, on the same site as The civic center. The building aims to encourage mental healing through enhanced sensual experiences, where people can stay for short ‘get aways’. Uses within include a concert hall, tactile and visual galleries, a range of eateries serving different cuisines, a culinary classroom, and various treatment rooms including aqua and acupuncture therapy.

These visuals show how the scheme has developed in terms of form. The site constraints have defined the general shape, whilst areas have developed their own character and elevation.

INTERNAL GEOMETRIES

The building is made up of simple geometries which slot together around glass covered circulation.

ENTRANCE POINTS

The entrance points can be found at all sides of the building, which maximizes accessibility from any site entrance. there are two entrances from the North. One serves the concert hall, whilst the other serves the rest

MAIN AXIS

The main axis is made up of a cross, from north to south, and east to west. As well as that, another axis can be found surrounding the triangular internal courtyard.

Vertical axis can be found throughout the building, made up of elevators and staircases. The restaurant/rooftop bar have their own axis to keep them separate from private areas. The concert hall and library share an axis as they are used at different times of day.

This series of diagrams show how different areas are used at different times over a 24 hour period. The purple diagram shows morning and daytime use, whilst the late afternoon and evening use is split into two areas. The concert hall, and restaurant bar, which both have their own access. The final diagram shows nighttime use which shows the accommodation.

Rainwater Retention

This case study included the In-depth research of a social housing scheme in Milton Keynes. Booklets were made , analyzing the scheme at micro and macro scales. This was further explored by producing a 1:500 model of the housing scheme using the laser cutter, showing how the roof line remains uniform with differing typography. A 1:50 interactive model shows the development of each house type over time, with detachable components for the facades and roof’s

Milton Keynes Eco Junior School is set on a site behind Milton Keynes Library. It follows the Montessori model of education, which is a proven and powerful approach to education, based on a deep understanding of the way children learn. The goal of the school is not to focus on pure academics, but to help children realize their strengths and become well rounded, happy individuals. This manifests within the Architecture, with faculties based around creative learning. The building is designed to be entirely sustainable, with a modular system, with ‘pods’ made with solar or green roofs, rain water collection, and the use of natural materials.

MARKETING FINISHES PLAN

WHITE-BOX ZONES

I have spent a large portion of my time at EPR Architects working on the Old War Office Scheme in London. It is currently in the construction phase, with ongoing updates & development. have primarily focused on front and back of house white-box areas, developing drawings for marketing, as well as being in charge of updates and co-ordination of BOH areas - including MEP, and door schedules.

WESTON PARK GRANARY

In my summer Internship at BHN, I was able to contribute to the task of rejuvenating the east wing of a listed Granary in Staffordshire at Weston Park in Weston-under-Lizard. It was to be converted into shot-term / hotel type accommodation to provide between 12 to 15 guest-rooms. Other facilities include a Small Reception, Office Space, Housekeeping Stores, and a Staff WC. Tasks included 3D Modeling using Revit, rendering, and hand sketching.

PLANS

APACHE JUNCTION PD MASTERPLAN

One of the main projects worked on at DFDG Architects was the masterplan and redevelopment of Apache Junction Police Station. The aim was to create much more fluid circulation between different preexisting parking lots and buildings, as well as creating a scheme which doubled the size of the existing police station.

The scheme centers around an oval walkway which connects all the main buildings, with the addition of a new police station, community buildings, and public park, all whilst maintaining ths stunning views of the Superstion Mountains.
