Have you ever found yourself in a sticky communication situation? It is often difficult to know the proper way to connect with certain “strangers”. This workshop will demonstrate effective ways to communicate with professionals, peers, and in other common social situations. Attendees will be given the chance to participate in mock situations in order to consolidate the skills for each strategy. Save the date – it’s time to make friends with strangers! Conflict Management in Student Leadership and Life I GROUP: Group Dynamics OR SELF: Personal Growth/Management Tuesday January 15th, 2013 @ 12:00 PM Galen Fick, Restorative Practices Coordinator, Off Campus Living, Student Life

Conflicts can be disastrous things that derail relationships and groups. Each one is complex and unique but at the same time; they are some common simple ways to turn conflicts in shared learning and growth opportunities. Whether for student organizations, clubs, or friend groups, this short workshop aims to equip someone in a supporting role with tips, tricks and straight forward strategies to approach sorting out and handle conflicts your group is facing. Through a mix of engaging activity and discussion the workshop will address the common challenges and successes of helping others get through conflict, what resources there are to draw on and where to go from here. [This is a repeat of the fall LEAD@guelph workshop and feeds into Conflict Management in Student Leadership and Life II.]
