Kickz has given me responsibility, I am more confident and it has helped me to communicate with people. If I wasn’t at regular coaching sessions I would just have a lot of spare time, so it keeps me busy and keeps me out of trouble. Kickz participant

Last season we provided over 700 charities with signed items for fundraising purposes. An early study into our ‘Something to Chew On’ programme showed that the number of children taking part in regular outdoor physical activity increased by 25% and the number of children walking to and from school increased by 16%. 40,000 children (locally) have attended an MU Foundation programme. During the 09/10 Season, the club celebrated ten years of “United for UNICEF.” At the annual gala dinner over £75,000 was raised towards the prevention of HIV. By hosting events around the stadium and facilitating fundraising for our charity partners we have raised £1.4 million for charity and the total is still rising. Since it began Kickz has significantly contributed to the reduction of crime in the local area with recent figures suggesting that crime is down by 18.5% at the times of Friday night sessions.

Evidence shows that something to chew on had reached pupils in a way that traditional methods have not previously. Dean Gilmore

DISABILITY FOOTBALL Our award-winning disability programme has grown into one of the largest in the Premier League and provides on average 10 hours per week of free coaching opportunities for young people and adults with disabilities. The Manchester United Foundation currently has four Ability Counts squads and works in partnership with the Manchester FA to run a disability ‘Centre of Excellence’ to encourage the more talented players into the England national squads. Hub of the Community As a development of our football coaching for schools programme, the Foundation has set up ‘hubs’ in secondary schools around the Manchester, Salford and Trafford regions. Football Development Officers are permanently based at these schools allowing a more long term relationship to be built with the local community and consistent provision of services for the young participants and their families. GIRLS FOOTBALL Manchester United Foundation FA Girls Centre of Excellence provides opportunities for girls to train and play at the highest level, with the ultimate aim of developing them into international players. There are four age groups - Under 10, 12, 14, 16. We also have an Under 18 team who play in the Cheshire and Manchester Girls U18 League. SOMETHING TO CHEW ON An interactive project aimed at teaching 7-8 year olds about their own health and well being. The programme recognises the need for sports organisations to work together to tackle rising obesity rates in England. The project is themed around food, nutrition and getting active and is the first of our ‘Football and…’ projects in local schools. KICKZ This programme targets young people from some of the most disadvantaged areas who may otherwise be difficult to reach. Using the appeal of professional football clubs, Kickz offers 12-18 year olds the chance to take part in positive activity 3 nights a week, 48 weeks of the year.

To facilitate OUR PROJECTS and to support the fundraising efforts of our CHARITY PARTNERS the Manchester United Foundation arranges fundraising events throughout the year. From black-tie events such as the United for UNICEF gala dinner to a Santa Run around the Old Trafford stadium! For families, the first team’s annual Open Training session is the perfect way of giving young Reds their first Old Trafford experience. And if you’re an intrepid adventurer you can join United Legends on an Activity Challenge of a life-time. By taking part in the many events and challenges organised by the Manchester United Foundation, you’re helping to raise money for projects that are having a lasting impact on the lives of our children and the local community. As a kid I always wanted to be playing football and these courses are great because they give kids the opportunity to do just that, but with some United magic to help. Denis Irwin

CHARITY PARTNERS Manchester United has seven charity partners which benefit from the Foundation’s support.

The Christie, The Legacy Rainbow House, Francis House, Cystic Fibrosis, The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, The Children’s Society and UNICEF. The support varies from funding for physiotherapy care for young cancer sufferers to purchasing equipment like parental beds. This is so that mums and dads can sleep next to their sick children and be there when they need them most.
