HOW IT WORKS An investment of $6,000 annually helps fill the financial gap for our Rising Stars students and opens the door for them to attend UST. It’s a win-win program – corporate sponsors gain a productive employee and the Rising Stars become valuable assets trained for Houston’s workforce. • • • •
Corporate sponsors contract with the UST Rising Stars subsidiary for part-time, entry-level office jobs. Each semester, corporate sponsors pay $3,000 to the UST Rising Stars subsidiary. Rising Stars students are employees of the Rising Stars subsidiary, not of the corporate sponsor. UST handles processing payments to the Rising Stars students.
SPONSOR REQUIREMENTS • Corporate sponsors agree to employ Rising Stars students for eight hours per week during the academic year while accommodating class schedules. • UST receives compensation for the students’ time worked in excess of eight hours per week at a rate of $25 per hour. • Corporate sponsors provide Rising Stars students with supervisors who provide feedback to both students and UST’s Career Services Department on performance and workplace skills. • UST’s Director of Corporate Relations meets with corporate sponsors as needed to ensure Rising Stars students are achieving success for the company. • UST and corporate sponsors establish agreements that reflect the nature of Rising Stars students’ individual hiring scenarios and specific provisions of the program.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS • Rising Stars students participate in a monthly meeting with UST’s Career Services Department to receive proper guidance on business skills. • In August, prior to the start of the semester, Rising Stars students participate in an orientation to review program expectations and receive work guidelines. • Rising Stars students are required to maintain a 2.0 grade point average to remain in the program.
