Primary 2 News! August 2018 Welcome to Primary 2 We would like to take this opportunity to tell you how well the children have settled into their new class. They are taking it all in their stride!
Home Time The P2 Team We are very lucky to have such a good team around us. Working with P2 you will find: Mrs Jaclyn Deans – Class teacher Monday and Tuesday. Miss Nathalie Thirland – Class teacher Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Mrs Mitchell – PE teacher
Names Please ensure that your child’s name is on all of their belongings, from water bottles to shoes. It can be very difficult returning items of clothing to their owners if they are not named!
Children are dismissed at 3pm from the door in our cloakroom. Children are reminded to look for the grown up who will be collecting them and reminded to stay at the gate with a member of school staff if they are unable to see anyone. PE Our PE days this term are Tuesday and Thursday with Mrs Mitchell. Gym bags should be kept on pegs so as to be available at all times. These will be sent home for washing at the end of each term. Our Tuesday PE slot this term straddles break time so the children will need to go out to play in their PE kit. With this in mind could we please ask that jogging trousers or leggings could be provided to be kept as part of the kit kept in school. Alternatively these could be brought to and from school each Tuesday. Homework
P2 homework will be issued on a Monday, to be returned the following Monday. More details will be issued separately.
We will continue to build on the phonics knowledge taught in Primary One. We plan to spend some time revisiting the sounds to ensure children have a really sound awareness of them before moving on to learn new some sounds. We will work on blending, reading and writing skills throughout our literacy lessons. We have been consolidating some of the number bonds and addition facts that we learned last year and we will continue to develop our counting skills with numbers beyond 10. Our learning context this term will be ‘Toys’. This is a great topic that we know the children will enjoy and it lends itself well to lots of links with literacy, technology and expressive arts.
