Basic Tensile Cable Assembly Installation Procedure Basic Architectural cable Systems
Proper installation is crucial to any tensile cable performance. Refer to page 23 for installation alignment procedures, page 21 for thread angle and direction, page 22 for preparation, maintenance and checkup notes as well as general procedure recommended in this page.
STEP 1 Check all components are in correct order; all threads are in good condition and free of dirt and debris. Use a marker to mark the middle position of the thread engagement for both terminals and both forks. See page 68 for details of finding middle adjustment. Slowly turn and install the lock nut to the inner most position of both terminals.
STEP 2 Slowly turn the turnbuckles until you reach the middle adjustment mark from step 1. Repeat for the turnbuckle of the other side of the cable assembly.
STEP 3 Slowly turn the fork until you reach the middle adjustment mark from step 1. Repeat for the fork of the other side of the cable assembly.
STEP 4 Open the pin assembly of the high end installation of the cable and re-assemble back onto the tie-back plate. Make sure all screws are correctly tightened. Lock the fork lock nut and the cable terminal lock nut onto the turnbuckle.
STEP 5 Install hydraulic unit to the lower end of the cable assembly and load hydraulic to the required pre-tension. Do not use the threads of the basic turnbuckle as means of loading tension; this may create galling on the turnbuckle.
STEP 6 Once the required load is reached on the cable, turn the turnbuckle to extend or retract the cable assembly to align the pin with the tie-back plate. Assemble the pin onto the tie back plate and check all screws are properly fitted. Lock both lock nuts onto the turnbuckle.
STEP 7 Remove the hydraulic unit and check with a tension meter that the pre-tension required is correctly achieved. If the required pre-tension is not installed correctly, repeat step 5 thought 7 until all pre-stress loadings are correct.

thread checking
Check all thread engagement has at least 1.5 times the depth as the diameter of the terminal thread. See page 68 for further thread engagement checking. Check all lock nuts are securely tighten. Check Loctite has been applied to all pin screws. Clean your cable assembly from any contamination of oil, dirt, etc. If subsequent construction work is still taking place, cover and protect the entire cable assembly from contamination. Follow maintenance and installation checking as per page 22.
