StructureTone Introduction

“

“ We wanted to create a space that would leave a lasting impact on visitors and provide staff with a space they wanted to work in. The team have worked hard to achieve this and we believe the refurbishment has completely lifted the building and blown new life into it. “

PROJECT CHALLENGES The Which? Project is located at 2 Marylebone Road, London. A two-stage fixed price lump sum tender based over five floors and a roof terrace, totalling 64,500 square feet. The key element and greatest design challenge of the project is the addition of a fourth storey encapsulated by a zinc feature roof. During the pre-construction & early construction period Structure Tone have been working closely with the specialist Subcontractor & Design Team to develop the method of construction to improve the buildability and cost-certainty of the roof design. There is also a new faรงade extension to one elevation of the building containing a new lift shaft with three glazed passenger lifts serving Ground to Level 4. The new faรงade is clad with structural glazing, aluminium rainscreen and timber cladding.

The interior consists primarily of open plan offices with exposed soffits and services, along with brand new washrooms and showers. A commercial kitchen and servery is being installed on Level 4 alongside an auditorium. The auditorium is divided from the servery by a bespoke full height acoustic pivot wall which is another key CDP challenge on the project. Other works to the building include slab penetrations for new Mechanical & Electrical risers, a feature staircase from Level 3 to 4, roof terrace including green roof and a new goods lift serving Basement to Ground Floor.
