The  Functional  Adult  Literacy   Program For   various   reasons   such   as   poverty,   inaccessibility   of   education   services   in   the   rural   areas,   and   prolonged   war   situations,  many  adults  in  the  region  have  had  no  access  to   education.   To   improve   their   opportunities   to   access   basic   literacy  and  numeracy  skills,  Strømme  Foundation  in  Eastern   Africa   supports   functional   adult   literacy   programs.   The   program  specially  targets  disadvantaged  women  and  girls.  In   Southern   Sudan,   the   program   also   targets   demobilized   and   in-service  soldiers  who  missed  out  on  their  basic  education   because  of  the  war.
