The Accelerated Education Program This program enables young people who did not complete or had no opportunity to start a basic education to rejoin and complete their primary education within a short period of time. The Accelerated Learning Program in the Sudan is an initiative by the Sudanese government that aims to provide older children, youth and young adults who missed their education during the war to attain a basic education. The program covers all the school work normally done by children through their primary school, although it is shortened from eight to four years.
The Functional Adult Literacy Program For various reasons such as poverty, inaccessibility of education services in the rural areas, and prolonged war situations, many adults in the region have had no access to education. To improve their opportunities to access basic literacy and numeracy skills, Strømme Foundation in Eastern Africa supports functional adult literacy programs. The program specially targets disadvantaged women and girls. In Southern Sudan, the program also targets demobilized and in-service soldiers who missed out on their basic education because of the war.
