Stroma Certification provides the training, software and certification required to become a Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) for existing dwellings.

Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs) are trained and licensed to collect data about an existing domestic property such as dimensions, construction and services, in order to generate an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) using Government approved RdSAP (Reduced Data Standard Assessment Procedure) software. Stroma Certification supply RSAP, which is an approved RdSAP software free of charge, to allow DEAs lodge reports on a national database. Stroma Certification offer the updated training and software required to prepare DEAs for major changes to the content and format of the new domestic EPC launch in April 2012. Following consumer research, the current EPC format is undergoing various updates. Feedback suggests the EPC is not readily understood by the public and information relating to energy efficiency improvements is not forthcoming. Moreover, the redesigned EPC will effectively support the Green Deal, when it is introduced in October 2012. Training for Carrying out the Revised Domestic EPC In January 2012, National Occupational Standards (NOS) were revised for the DEA training course so that the course could adapt and include the Green Deal EPC. This is in line with Governmental policy for improving the energy performance of existing buildings and the developing EPC, plus the underlying RdSAP methodology.

Existing DEAs who wish to continue practicing and maintain their certification after the 6th April 2012 will need to undertake top up training and successfully pass a further examination. Stroma Certification provides a free of charge on line computer based training (CBT) DEA top up course to cater for this. The course presentation offers learning modules containing the required eight-hours learning time, with additional pre-course reading material available in manageable sections. Stroma Certification additionally offers face-to-face training regionally, presented in lecture style, or can arrange private courses for thirty or more candidates. The DEA top-up training leads to a further examination, by the Awarding Body for the Built Environment (ABBE). The top up applies to Northern Ireland also, however, is not a current requirement for Scottish EPCs, even though the format of the EPC will change to include the Green Deal Advice. Examination is in the format of a supervised multiple-choice assessment, consisting of forty questions typically lasting sixty minutes. Bookings for the exam can be placed via Stroma Certification, where you will be issued a voucher to attend a examination.
