M
y wife, Jenny, and I are both proud Chicagoans. After years in the city, we found our dream home in the Elgin area. We are proud parents of a rescue dog and three adult children, as well as grandparents to three grandchildren. What is the history and mission of your business? I founded Anthony J. Madonia & Associates, Ltd. with a vision of creating a thoughtful, service-oriented, hands-on practice where clients receive comprehensive support and expedient attention. In October 2025, we celebrated 30 years of serving clients. What types of services does your business offer? We provide customized assistance on legal and tax matters to businesses and individuals across the Chicagoland area and beyond-I am also licensed in Kansas and Arkansas. The firm serves as attorneys and advisors to businesses and individuals with comprehensive legal and tax support. What is unique about your business? We are unique because we can incorporate tax planning into every business, estate and real estate strategy that we implement. Our taxation 18

department has staff that crunch the numbers and run “what if” scenarios depending on what the client’s objectives are. How does your business connect with and contribute to the local community? Our firm believes in giving back to the community in which we live and work and support local athletic and educational opportunities for youth. We are active in regional organizations such as the Safer Foundation and the Donald and Lorena Meier Foundation. I am proud to serve as Chairman of the Board for both non-profit organizations. Can you share insights into any challenges your business has overcome and the growth that resulted? I enjoy identifying strategies and developing plans to best help the client. Over thirty years, we have seen many changes in the legal field from Zoom court, a hybrid workforce and so much

more. To be successful in any field you must stay relevant and be able to pivot to best meet your clients’ needs. What is your vision for the future of your business? We have been able to succeed for 30 years by providing a personal approach to each client’s legal and tax needs. We use initial meetings to find out where the client is currently and how we can help them to a more secure future. We aim to provide professional expertise with a dose of personal connection. Given your professional expertise and experiences, what advice do you have for our residents? We moved our offices to Schaumburg in 2024 and are proud to be a part of this community. My advice to residents is “you don’t have to know everything to be able to solve your legal issues, manage your wealth, or plan for your future.” Find professionals that are knowledgeable and can translate current issues and jargon into language you can fully understand. Don’t let your confusion or questions hold you back from getting help with tax preparation or estate planning. Anthony J. LEGAL MATTERS
A
n administrative trust is a temporary legal arrangement created after someone’s death. It is created to manage and distribute the deceased’s assets as outlined in their estate plan. Typically, an administrative trust handles tasks such as paying debts, resolving claims, and distributing assets before the trust’s termination. Understanding the purpose of administrative trusts can help ensure a smooth estate settlement process for families and businesses. Administrative trusts are a temporary solution to manage estate matters before assets are distributed to beneficiaries efficiently. These trusts are commonly created when a revocable living trust becomes irrevocable after the grantor’s death. They oversee debt settlement and claims resolution; asset management; and tax obligations. With a structured approach, administrative trusts protect beneficiaries from legal and financial complications, providing clarity during a potentially stressful time. Working with an estate planning attorney ensures your administrative trust is set up effectively and aligns with your unique local needs. Selecting the right trustee is essential to the success of an administrative trust, your attorney can ensure you select an affective trustee. By understanding the purpose and benefits of an administrative trust, you can prepare for the future with greater peace of mind. Whether you’re an individual seeking to safeguard your family’s legacy or a business owner addressing succession planning, Anthony J. Madonia & Associates, Ltd. is here to guide you. Our firm’s recognition by the Better Business Bureau reflects our commitment to quality and professionalism. If you’re ready to begin planning or have questions about administrative trusts, contact us today to schedule a consultation. We’ll create a tailored solution to meet your legal and financial needs. PRECIOUS PETS
LINCOLN, THE ENGLISH CREAM RETRIEVER BY RESIDENTS LINCOLN (RICK AND HALEY) PETRICCA
My name is Lincoln, and you’ve probably seen me running up and down the fence line. If you’ve heard me barking, I promise I’m just saying HI. I get very excited to meet new people! And if you ever see me and my mom on our walks and I’m barking at the squirrels. Well, that’s because they’re totally teasing me. They know I can’t catch them! Can’t wait to keep seeing you around the neighborhood! Love, Lincoln Is your pet an angel or a bit of a troublemaker? Lincoln is definitely an angel; at least to his mom. He’s our baby, and he pretty much gets whatever he wants: longer walks, unlimited couch time, treats on demand. What can we say? He’s living his best life in the suburbs!
chicken nuggets with me (10/10, would recommend). After my little field trip, they brought me back home safe and sound. Honestly, it was a pretty great adventure.
Does your pet have any specific talents or tricks? He knows a handful of classic tricks, sit, shake, stay, but his real talent is charming everyone he meets. He really is so lovable!
What are his personality traits? Lincoln is loving, cuddly, adventurous, and incredibly sweet. He’s the kind of dog who wants to be close to his people, explore everything around him, and soak up every bit of affection he can get.
Is there anything other neighbors or pets would know your pet for? Being outside 24/7!
What is your pet’s favorite Arlington Heights’ park? South Middle School! We love running around the track.
Has he ever run away or gotten into trouble? I only “ran away” once, though I wouldn’t really call it running away. Mom accidentally left the gate open, and I simply took the opportunity to explore the neighborhood a bit. A very sweet mom found me while she was taking her son to school. He even shared some of his

RESTAURANT REVIEW
Specialty soda drinks!

Rocco’s Review A soda shop revival: Chick ‘N Fizz serves nostalgia with every sip and bite BY RESIDENT ROCCO SMERIGLIO
I seldom get nostalgic in writing restaurant reviews, but this month my wife Andrea and I paid a visit to Chick ‘N Fizz. Located at the former site of Palermo Eye Care between Dunton and Evergreen, I was quickly reminded of sitting at a soda fountain counter at a Woolworth’s or a Kresge. We were greeted by owners Shari McCollum and David Lanuti who are the greatest hosts anyone could ask for. It is very apparent that this welcoming couple is passionate about this new establishment. According to McCollum, “The inspiration behind the business was my parents meeting for the first time in a 24

soda shop”. While this is Shari and David’s first restaurant venture, the passion and attention to detail is very apparent. As for the food, let’s talk Chicken Wings! Carefully made in a specialty Broaster which allows for a juicy wing inside, with a crispy outside! I will put these wings up against anyone’s! But that is just the beginning. Enter the sauce bar! Here you can choose from a wide variety of 15 sauces including Lemon Pepper, Jamaican Jerk, and Buffalo just to name a few. So even if you are in a”home body” mood, these wings are also offered in a carry out format and are a solid choice for any party, game or event!
Now for the Fizz, more than 23 specialty soda drinks are offered! We tried a total of four and here is where the throwback to childhood took place! Soda drinks that taste like an orange Dreamsicle? The “Orange You Glad, (orange crush with vanilla and cream). The Butter Beer which is Mug Root beer with vanilla, butterscotch and cream was a treat for the ages. Both of these drinks classify as a “dirty” because of the cream added however 23 other specialty drinks are also available. So if you are eager for a fun, different, throwback experience, give Chick ‘N Fizz a try! Chick ‘N Fizz | 18 S Evergreen Ave. Arlington Heights | (224) 527-1474

Arlington Heights Memorial Library Foundation Building a stronger community: The impact of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library Foundation BY LAUREE HARP, FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE AHML FOUNDATION
Tell us about the The Arlington Heights Memorial Library. We are one of the top libraries in Illinois. Since 2018, the AHMLF has been passionately raising funds to support important improvements that might not be covered elsewhere. Our mission is to support the library in fostering lifelong learning, aiming to create a curious, creative, and educated community through an accessible, toptier library system. We’ve helped outfit Makerplace’s commercial kitchen, brought in new 3D printers, and created a cozy basement space for everyone to enjoy. Inside the library, we’ve added a baby garden for toddlers, a fun maker cart
for kids aged 5-9, iPads for Seniors, and a cool maker table for tweens; making the library a lively and inviting place for all ages. Plus, we’re proud to offer scholarships to students pursuing trades and have secured funding for lockers at Camelot and Heritage Parks. Most exciting of all, we recently raised $150,000 to launch a new bookmobile, opening up even more opportunities for adventure and learning right in our community. Why is AHMLF so important to our community? A strong library system unites people by promoting literacy and lifelong learning. It offers access to books and resources, supporting all ages
and backgrounds in improving reading skills, fostering a love for reading, and achieving educational goals. It also builds a welcoming community, especially for those who might feel isolated. Did you know that 50% of our residents live north of Palatine and south of Central? Accessing the library can be a challenge—especially for seniors, individuals with disabilities, or those without reliable transportation. That’s why the Foundation has spent the past year working hard to make access easier for everyone, with lockers at local parks and a new Bookmobile to serve the community more effectively. How to get involved: Attend an event, follow us on social media, share our posts, and donate. Arlington Heights Memorial Library Foundation | 500 N.
