The Future Is Cornerstone

God Is on the Move

“Hello!” to Our New Families

God Is on the Move By Dr. Hubert Krygsman, Principal

ays before the start of this school year, I received word about a family that had, a few years ago, sent their children – two boys who are now in their teens – to Strathroy Community Christian School (SCCS). Their experience at SCCS significantly changed the entire life trajectory of the boys. Had they not gone through SCCS and been loved and cared for in our school community, their lives would be entirely different, mostly without hope and lacking even basic education. This is just one of the many wonderful testimonies that I have received from families about the impact that SCCS has had on their children. And while I love how these testimonies reflect the good, faithful work of our staff, I also think that there is something – or someone – more deeply at work at SCCS. That is, God is on the move at SCCS. ‘God is on the move,’ in fact, is our theme at SCCS this year. Our vision for our students is that they have a ‘transformational’ educational experience. This does include providing excellent education that meets provincial standards, equips students for today’s world, and enables each student to grow to their own potential. But much more deeply, we aim to help students become ‘transformed’ in Jesus Christ. We want our students to know that God is at work in them, leading them to live out His purpose for them as His disciples in the world.

To do this, we also want our students to know how God is at work in the world and how they can serve Him in that world. Coming to know this can be challenging, since our world today seems so coloured by corruption and cynicism. But wherever we see the beauty of creation, the regularity of seasons, the wonderful diversity of creatures, and the awesome scale and structure of the galaxies, we know that God is faithfully preserving His world. And as our theme song God is on the Move (by 7eventh Time Down) rightly says, wherever we see people caring for others, showing love, helping those in need, and seeking justice and to set things right, we can see that God is very much at work. Realizing that God is at work in them and in the world provides the hope that our students need to find their place and fulfill their calling. Our prayer is that all of our students will experience the hope and purpose that the boys described above did, and that they will be equipped and inspired to ‘shine like stars’ for God wherever He calls them to serve in the world. Dr. Hubert Krygsman Principal

For Everything There Is a Season By Bob Kroesbergen, Board Chair

ecently, I went for a drive North toward Parry Sound. It was autumn, and the colours were on full display. It was the epitome of beauty in nature; some of God’s finest work. Every colour from green to orange to red to yellow, and so many colours that only God could name them all. A few weeks later, all of the leaves had fallen to the ground, and the landscape now seems completely different. We are reminded that there is a season for everything in Ecclesiastes 3. The beautiful colours that were evident only a short time ago have now become ground cover and will foster new growth. Now, winter is here, followed by spring when the forests will explode with new life. So begins our next season of school. New things to learn, kids to play with and time to learn about all of the wonderful things that God has created. There are so many things that God has put here for us to learn, see, and explore! May God bless you all in the next season of school and life. In Christ, Bob Kroesbergen Board Chair

Join us in Transforming SCCS into

the Creative Learning Hub of Tomorrow An innovative facility designed for spiritual, social and academic success!

Our ‘Cornerstone’ Capital Why Upgrade SCCS? Campaign has Launched! Our building’s conventional design Through the support of our caring community, SCCS is making very good use of our current facility and focusing on repairing what’s broken and upgrading what is required. We will then create a permanent creative learning centre to continue delivering quality education for our students and community. (Subject to funding.) This project has already begun and with the support of the school community, it will be complete in 2023. The public phase of our capital campaign launched in June and canvassers are approaching supporters in our community and requesting their financial support. If you have not yet been visited, and would like to learn more about our project and making a donation to the future of SCCS, please contact us! There’s still time to get your donations applied to the 2019 tax year.

was cost-effective and has served us well over the past 24 years. But times have changed and SCCS continues to strive to ensure the success of each student and community member. To do so requires changes to enable innovative programming changes today and in the future: • Differentiated learning spaces to match that of students. • Tools that students need. • Space to prepare and reflect. • Places for creativity and innovation for a wide variety of groups. • Collaborative learning zones for small and large groups. • 21st century communication technology is needed. • Music program requires separate space for children and adults to learn.

Full Steam Ahead!

For the past two summers, volunteers and businesses have tackled a list of essential improvements to the school. Remarkable new spaces and technologies were created and upgraded: • Students’ washrooms were upgraded to ensure privacy, remedy plumbing issues and install automated faucets and toilets. Washrooms are now safer and use far less water, saving the school money. • With the installation of LED lights, our school is brighter, quieter and uses less electricity. • Using the Second Chance Community Store property, we now relay a high-speed Internet signal to the school, finally allowing computers to load online information fast, whenever and however it’s needed. • Through a partnership with our IT consultant, students now have many computers that can handle the demands of daily digital work. • Our print room was transformed into an accessible washroom. • All of our windows and blinds were replaced. • A new window was added in the office to help ensure the safety and security of students. • New flooring was installed in the administrative office.
