Happy Spring! St. Pius X Catholic School May 2013 Newsletter

Message from the Principal

Welcome back! I hope that everyone’s Easter was peaceful and renewing. With the end of the 3 rd quarter, the

slightly warmer days, and the end of the N.Y.S. Assessments for our 3 rd-8th graders, I sense that our students are starting to see “a light at the end of the tunnel.” Still, there is much work to be done here at school. May is a very busy time for us. We start with a school Mass at 9:00 a.m. on the 1 st. Our Pre-K’s and kindergartens will perform at their spring concert on Thursday the 2nd. And on Saturday, May 4th, our 2nd graders will receive their First Holy Communion. This is always a very special day for our children, their families and our school.

Special points teachers and assistants for their hard work and dedication again this year. Each day, your children receive the of interest: May 6th is the start of National Teachers’ Appreciation Week. I would like to be the first to thank all of our blessing of being with talented teachers who work extremely hard on their behalf. In addition to mathematics, science, reading, social studies and such, each day our faculty dedicates time to pray with your children, share the Gospel message, and help form them in their faith. We come together with our entire parish community on May 9th for Ascension Thursday Mass. We hope you can

join us. The following week, at 10:00 a.m. on the 15th., we will Crown our blessed Mother Mary, which is always a special occasion for our school community. The next evening our 1 st and 2nd graders will be on stage for their spring concert, which starts at 6:30 p.m.

One of the most important days of the year for our school is Friday, May 17 . Please get rested for our “Race for Education,” when our students have fun “racing” around our athletic fields as they raise money to support our school and its on-going mission. Don’t forget to bring your camera and sneakers! Have a safe and blessed spring!

“Please Remember Me” Through your generosity, we were able to present a check for $1,350.00 to the “Please Remember Me” project in memory of our fallen veterans and those who still serve. Mr. Tom Regan, the representative from that project, was overwhelmed by our school’s gift, and he asked me to thank all of you for honoring those who serve. Together, we will continue to pray for world peace.

Earth Day!

Mrs. Bick’s Pre-K 5 cleans up our playground for Earth Day. Great job Pre-K 5! Genesis 1:1-31 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

Reminders from the School Nurse

I will be sending physical and immunization forms home with report cards for NEXT YEARS required physicals and immunizations in order for parents to have these forms as they make doctors appointments. PHYSICALS New York State Education Law requires that each student receive a physical when entering a school district for the first time and again in grades K, 2, 4, and 7. Any physical exam during the twelve months prior to the commencement of the school year that the physical is required in is acceptable. ALL REQUIRED PHYSICALS ARE DUE BY OCTOBER 1. Dental forms are not required at this time. If your child has a physical scheduled this spring, physical forms can be turned in ANYTIME before the end of the school year or during the summer. Please mark correspondence to the attention of the school nurse. If your child receives medication at school, a new written doctors order and parent permission is needed each year and can be obtained in the spring but have the doctor write that the order is for the next school year. IMMUNIZATIONS All incoming 6th graders who are 11 years old need to have proof of Tdap (tetanus, diptheria, acellular pertussis) immunization, as required by New York State, PRIOR to entering school in September. 10-year-old students who are entering 6th grade will not be required to receive Tdap vaccine but will be tracked by the school nurse and must be immunized when they turn 11 years old. Please turn in any health related paperwork directly to the health office. Please call the health office with any concerns or questions. All your children will be taught by the LORD, and they will have much peace. Isaiah 54:13 St Pius X School
