St. Pius X Catholic School June 2012 Newsletter Message from the Principal Believe it or not it’s June, and all good things must come to an end they say. For our 8th grade graduates, their time with us at St. Pius X School also means a new beginning in high schools throughout the capital district. We will miss their smiles as well as their antics, but our faculty and staff are sending them off knowing that they are very well-prepared for the academic challenges they will face. As importantly, while they have been with us, they have heard the Gospel message each day, and they know well the responsibilities they bear as children of God. We pray that they will take the lessons learned at St. Pius X with them to find success and happiness while helping to make the world a bit better. May God continue to bless them and their families as they continue their life’s journey. On the other side of the school, our younger students are also winding down the year and getting excited about the summer break. It has been another successful and rewarding year for our school community. Our hard working and dedicated faculty and staff, with your constant support, and a commitment to our mission, have provided our students with a wonderful place to learn and grow.

The theme for June is

A very special thank you to all of our teachers, who taught, comforted and sometimes corrected our students this year. I would like to extend my gratitude to all of the support staff in our school and parish offices who offer their help on a daily basis. Thank you to our School Board member, who donate their time and treasures in an effort to make our school the best it can be. A very special thanks also to our Parent School Association who contribute so much to the life of our school and who help bring our community together. Thank you to the Pastoral Council and our entire parish community who continue to support our ministry. Thanks especially to you, our parents and guardians, entrusting us with your most precious gifts each day. all appreciate the sacrifices that you make to send children to us. May God bless you and your children a very safe and relaxing summer. Yours in Christ, Dennis Mullahy Principal

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany Thank you to our students and faculty for your prayerful participation in Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice Bowl this past Lent. Your generous donation of over $2,000 has helped make Operation Rice Bowl a success. 75% of the Operation Rice Bowl contributions will go to Catholic relief Services and support projects to help people all around the world who struggle with the burdens of hunger and poverty. 25% of the contributions raised remain in the Albany Diocese and help fund hunger and poverty alleviation programs in Parish Outreach that assist people in our own local communities. Please visit the Operation Rice Bowl website and the Catholic Charities website to find more information about how your generous gifts are put to use here and around the world.

Reminders from the School Nurse Please remember the following information as you plan for the next school year:

PHYSICALS New York State Education Law requires that each student receive a physical when entering a school district for the first time and again in grades K, 2, 4, and 7. Any physical exam during the twelve months prior to the commencement of the school year that the physical is required in is acceptable. All required physical forms are due by October 1 in the health office. Dental forms are not required at this time. If your child has a physical scheduled this spring, physical forms can be turned in ANYTIME before the end of the school year! MEDICATIONS Students who receive medications during school must have a new written Doctor’s order and written parent permission each year. You can get these orders with spring physicals and have the doctor write that it is for the next school year. I will send forms home to students with current medication orders and forms to indicate instructions for pick up or disposal of this years medications. Medications cannot be kept in the health office over the summer. IMMUNIZATIONS All incoming 6th graders who are 11 years old need to have proof of Tdap (tetanus, diptheria, acellular pertussis) immunization, as required by New York State, PRIOR to entering school in September. 10-yearold students who are entering 6th grade will not be required to receive Tdap vaccine but will be tracked by the school nurse and must be immunized when they turn 11 years old. Please call the health office with any concerns or questions. Elaine Libruk ,RN
