“I desire to do your will, my God; Your law is within my heart." Psalm 40:8

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time 1/15/2017

In the Gospel of John, we hear John the Baptist call Jesus the “Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world”. This is truly Good News! John’s testimony about Jesus shows us the difference between John's baptism and the Baptism that Jesus will establish. John baptizes with water; Jesus will baptize with the Holy Spirit. The purpose of John's baptism was to make Jesus known to Israel. John's witness is an excellent example of what it means to be a disciple of Christ. By our Baptism, we are called to make Jesus known to all the world by our words and actions ~ and to be His witnesses by following Him and sharing His love and mercy!

CHILDREN‛S LITURGY OF THE WORD! Please consider helping in this wonderful Ministry! Meeting: Sunday, January 22 Place: Parish Hall Time: 1:00 PM This is a wonderful way for our youngest parishioners to learn the lessons and teachings of Jesus in a setting where giggling and fidgeting are expected and questions encouraged. All children ages 4 to 8 are invited to join (those younger than 4 may attend with a parent to help them.) Children will be led out at the beginning of the Liturgy of the Word of 10:30 AM Mass to the Parish Hall where they will explore the Gospel together, and then return to the Sanctuary following the offertory to celebrate the remainder of Mass with their families. This is a beautiful ministry opportunity as well! Whether you have children of your own or just have the heart of a child, please consider volunteering your time to share the love of God. You will develop a deeper understanding of the message of the Gospel readings and also get some beautiful smiles in return. Training and material will be provided. If you are curious about ways you can help or have any ideas or feedback to share, please contact the Faith Formation Office at 860.521.2904 or at spcreled@sbcglobal.net
