ABOUT STORM CONCEPTS Steve Adrian is Storm Concepts, maker of cabinets, furniture, kitchens and exhibition stands. Often just a bit different, but always practical. Steve started his career in marketing but soon realised that his strength is in creating, doing, not just in thinking. He honed his skills at Oceanfast, working on luxury yachts with materials such as wood, aluminium and acrylic. Since then Steve has worked many years as a freelancer in creating exhibition stands, kitchens and furniture. In 2012 Steve started Storm Concepts. Today Storm operates from a large workshop in Bibra Lake.
An ultra practical buit-in bench seat. Made from ply and recycled antique jarrah floorboards.
FURNITURE Two-tone hall table from jarrah and pine. Large upcycled mirror is teamed with a surround made from jarrah planks and fixings from old horse stables.
CABINETRY A clever configuration of ply boxes creates beautiful practical storage and display spaces in this North Fremantle home.
This feature wall was created for Coffea Fine Espresso in Garden City, entirely out of recycled timber. It would look just as amazing in someone’s dining room or outdoor enterntaiment area....
Window seat = storage. Front made from ply off-cuts.
Two examples of custom made AV units in plywood. Round legs are a kerbside find.
The typical features of standard materials (ply and FJ meranti) are emphasised in this practical home office.
The natural grain of ply is used here as an interesting alternative to paint. Quarter ply sheets with a v-groove express joint are face fixed, then varnished.
Succesful experiments in bending ply result in a stunning coffee table and a side table. Teamed with legs found on the verge.
An off-cut of an interesting veneer combined with discarded fibre-optic cable and LED lights result in an amazing piece of furniture.
Mdf and laminate are used in these cheerful children’s chairs. A perfect way to use off-cuts from the exhibition industry.
FURNITURE Is it a bench, a piece of art
of perhaps a spaceship? Made from laminate bent around an organic shaped carcass, it is great for climbing.
Creating custom exhibition stands for companies in the Oil & Gas and pharmaceutical industry has for many years been Steve’s bread ‘n butter. While sub-contracting for exhibition companies, he keeps building on his expertise in production, transport and delivery of high-quality stands, with great attention to detail. The quality of his work was recognised at AOG in 2013 when two of the stands built by Storm won exhibitor awards.
