From Data Protection Act compliance, subject access requests and Freedom of Information, through to records management, data sharing agreements and social media issues, the team has a wide variety of specialist and general knowledge on which to draw. Brian Miller, Senior Associate Brian qualified as a solicitor after graduating from Cambridge University and was a partner in a specialist London media law firm and in-house IT Counsel for both NSPCC and Portsmouth City Council before joining Stone King. He was formerly Head of Legal & HR at Virgin Interactive and Acting Head of Legal Affairs at Phonographic Performance Limited. Brian provides specialist legal advice to organisations and individuals in the fields of IT, commerce and e-commerce, procurement, data protection, information management, intellectual property and computer games. Brian is the author of numerous articles in the fields of IT, e-commerce and computer games and regularly contributes to his four blogs, follow here: IT Law Blog IP Blog Privacy & Data Protection Blog Computer Games Blog Brian has been listed in the Legal Experts Guide, the computer games section of the Legal 500 and cited as a ‘Best of the UK’ lawyer (Computer Games) in Chambers' UK Guide to Solicitors.
Vicki Bowles, Barrister Vicki was called to the Bar by the Hon Society of the Middle Temple in October 2002, before completing her pupillage with HMC&E (as it was then), going onto specialise in tax and excise litigation. In 2005, Vicki moved to the Charity Commission, where she worked as a legal advisor to the compliance team, and built up expertise in both charity and information law. Vicki moved to Stone King in 2007, and following the completion of her Masters in Information Law and Practice, she has steadily built up expertise in all areas of data protection, freedom of information and general information management. Vicki regularly
deals with subject access requests, storage and movement of personal data queries, and appeals to the ICO, first tier tribunal and upper tribunal. Vicki has also published a number of articles in relation to data protection obligations and freedom of information requests, and has spoken on data protection issues at a number of internal and external events. Outside of work, Vicki is an assistant brownie leader, and a trustee of the local CAB, where she is chair of the Governance Committee.
Caroline Leviss, Senior Associate Caroline started her career in London, qualifying in 2001, before joining Stone King in 2007. She has extensive corporate and commercial law experience, including transactional work (ie acquisitions and mergers), company reorganisations, banking, venture capital and joint ventures. Caroline also advises on commercial, secretarial, IT and IP and data protection matters, including articles of association and shareholderâ€™s agreements, software contracts, website terms and conditions, general terms and conditions of trade and trade mark law. Caroline works with directors, shareholders, companies, partnerships, sole traders, charities and schools on a wide range of legal matters. She is primarily based in our Bath office but regularly works in our London office.
Kate Grimley Evans, Solicitor Kate Grimley Evans joined the firm in January 2011. She gained a Modern and Medieval Languages degree from the University of Cambridge before converting to the law. She trained with Eversheds and on qualification worked for Eversheds and Mills & Reeve in Cambridge. She specialises in Education and Education Property work. She also has experience of acting as a clerk to school governing bodies. She is a trustee of the parent teacher association of a primary school in Cambridgeshire. Kate has built up particular expertise in the area of pupil information and pupil records, and the interaction with data protection.
Amy Gordon, Solicitor Amy joined Stone King in 2010 and qualified in 2012, having graduated with an LLB from Cardiff University. Amy specialises in Employment Law and acts for a range of clients from nationally recognised organisations to small local businesses and employees. Amy advises on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious issues including performance management, grievance and disciplinary procedures, absence management, tribunal claims, redundancy, compromise agreements, contract variations, industrial action and policy issues. Amy also advises on subject access requests under the Data Protection Act and requests under the Freedom of Information Act and is a member of the firmâ€™s Information Management team.
Venetia Phipps, Solicitor Venetia is a newly qualified Solicitor in the Education Team. She completed her training contract with the firm in October 2013. Venetia worked in private equity for a Swiss bank before commencing her career in law as a paralegal in the corporate team of a City firm. She joined us from an academy sponsor, where she was responsible for compliance with obligations in respect of charity regulations, education law, company law and corporate governance. Venetia graduated from The University of Kent in 2007 and completed the Legal Practice Course at The College of Law in 2008. She has been community governor at Northumberland Park Community School since 2010.
