The US Fed's policy makers kept interest rates unchanged, investors took some profits.
Re-cap of the US Stock Market Action for July 23, 2009 + Stock Talk. US Stocks fell Wednesday on a technical "pause" that the talking heads said was down to investor worry that the US Federal Reserveis moving closer to pulling back on measures they are using to help rebuild the World's economies. The DJIA lost 81.32 pts, or 0.83%, to close at 9,748.55, the S&P 500 shed 10.79 pts, or 1.01%, to close at 1,060.87, and the NAS tallied a - 14.88 pts, or 0.69%, to end the session at 2,131.42. The US$ fell to new 2009 lows just after the release of the latest Fed policy statement and rebounded to post a 0.3% gain on the day, despite its bounce, savvy currency traders are betting against the continued weakness of the greenback. US Treasuries responded favorably to the Fed's announcement, and held their gains. The benchmark 10 yr T-Note finished roughly 10 ticks higher putting its yield near 3.40%.
