FASCINATING MOUNTAIN SUMMER 2018 An inspiring summer programme

Guests staying more than one night in a participating hotel enjoy free mountain railway transport. Further information on page 9.

The Engadin has a long tradition of golf at the highest level. In 2018, the Engadine Golf Club celebrates its 125th anniversary. This is Switzerland’s oldest golf club and a real institution. The club’s magnificent courses in Samedan und Zuoz lie at an altitude of 1,700 metres in an unrivalled natural setting. When we consider that as far back as 1889 a 9-hole course was laid out by Lake St. Moritz for a while, we can even say that the Engadin is the cradle of Swiss golf. Alongside golf, the Engadin St. Moritz holiday region offers an endless variety of other sporting activities. This year, the theme of the Swiss mountain summer is “Back to nature”. And for an impressive and eco-friendly experience of nature, it is hard to beat the Engadin. Hardly any other alpine destination can offer its guests such a variety of pristine and spectacular natural landscapes. Explore on foot, by mountain bike or e-bike or on horseback; sail or windsurf across the sparkling lakes; play the scenic golf courses: whatever your preference, the Engadin offers an inspiring setting and a tremendous variety of possibilities for finding your way back to nature – and experiencing it up close. You can look forward to a close-up experience of culture, too, in the Upper Engadin. The organisers of leading events such as the Festival da Jazz, Engadin Festival and the Nietzsche Colloquium invite world-class artists and renowned thinkers to a variety of small but stylish venues in historic buildings or surrounded by nature. With our attractive “Mountain railways and cableways included” offer, you can access our uplifting mountain landscapes easily and inexpensively. Any stay of more than one night at a participating hotel or holiday apartment includes your ticket for travel on up to 13 cable cars, gondolas, chairlifts and funiculars in Engadin St. Moritz. Treat yourself to an escape, let yourself be inspired by our dramatic natural landscapes and enjoy an unforgettable holiday in Engadin St. Moritz – whatever your budget.

The mountains offer a wide variety of other innovative attractions, too. From the top station of the Diavolezza cable car, for example, you can reach the nerve-tingling via ferratas (fixed-cable climbs) on the Piz Trovat, or join an impressive hike across the Pers Glacier to the Morteratsch Glacier. Up on the Corviglia, families love the pushchair-accessible footpaths and the Marguns and Salastrains playgrounds – and, of course, the refreshing mountain air. For particularly breathtaking views, head up to the Corvatsch at an altitude of 3,303m (10,837ft), or follow the popular Hahnensee walk from the Corvatsch middle station down to St. Moritz Bad. You can discover the region’s gastronomic delights, meanwhile, on the Via Gastronomica, a culinary trail leading from the Furtschellas top station into the delightful Val Fex. Along the way you enjoy a three-course meal at different restaurants; the hike lasts between 2 and 5 hours, depending on the route you choose.

The idyllic paths along the famous Engadin lakes in the valley are particularly well suited to families with young children, as they accommodate pushchairs. If you prefer something more ambitious, head for one of the four hiking areas served by mountain railways: Corviglia, Corvatsch/Furtschellas, Diavolezza or Muottas Muragl/Alp Languard. Bernina Glaciers Experience

The Bernina Glaciers area offers visitors the chance to experience the full variety of the spectacular glacial landscape between the Engadin and the Valposchiavo. Three key elements – glaciers, energy and time – are the focus of a range of attractions and adventures in nature. The rivers of ice themselves are the crowning glory, with superb views of the sparkling Bernina massif from the observation terrace at the summit station of the Diavolezza cable car. A walk along the Morteratsch Glacier Trail, meanwhile, reveals the secrets of the third-longest glacier in the Eastern Alps. Youngsters enjoy learning all about this glacial world as they follow two specially written children’s stories – about “Sabi, the glacier spirit”, and “Grummo, the giant”. At Cavaglia you can discover the fascinating glacial mills, created by nature over thousands of years. The Rhaetian Railway’s spectacular Bernina line, part of UNESCO World Heritage, links the numerous sights and provides easy access. “Flurin, the local mountaineer” invites visitors on a fascinating audio tour adventure as they travel from the Diavolezza base station to the summit: a trip in time to discover the early days of winter tourism, the first mountain climbs in the region and the story of the Diavolezza cable car. This fluid route leads from Pontresina via Morteratsch over the new Uphill Trail up to the Bernina Pass, where your efforts are rewarded with breathtaking views of the Bernina massif and a thrilling descent into the Valposchiavo. A rather gentler ride is the valley route from Maloja to Zernez, which follows the river Inn and is ideal for electric bikes. Whether you opt for an athletic challenge or a leisurely ride, you’ll have plenty of opportunity along the route to relax, freshen up and admire the glorious scenery at restaurants and cafes with sun terraces and at picturesque swimming lakes. Samedan golf course

Switzerland’s oldest golf club is a much-loved institution. Its courses in Samedan and Zuoz are located 1,700 metres above sea level, in an incomparable natural setting. In 2018, the Engadine Golf Club celebrates its 125 th anniversary. As far back as 1889, a 9-hole course was laid out for a short time on the shores of Lake St. Moritz – and as a result, the Engadin is considered the cradle of golf in mainland Europe. Today, with its choice of outstanding and challenging courses, the region attracts players from all over the world. Further information: /golfing

Samedan Golf Course This 18-hole championship course (par 72) with a length of 6,217m (6,799 yards) recalls a links course. Facilities also include spacious putting greens, an approach area, a partially covered driving range with

40 tees, and technical aids including RoboGolfPro and Trackman. The Engadin Golf Center Academy provides individual and group tuition for all levels of player. Carts, trolleys and golf bags can be hired. A stylish clubhouse restaurant serves delicious meals and refreshing drinks.

Zuoz-Madulain Golf Course A couple of drives down the valley lies the Zuoz-Madulain course, which opened in 2003. The 18-hole championship course (par 72) with a length of 6,007m (6,569 yards) enjoys a natural alpine setting and promises a game full of variety. Here, too, the facilities set a high standard – with a restaurant, pro shop, the Engadin Golf Center Academy (individual and group tuition for players of all levels), spacious putting greens, approach area and a partially covered driving range with 40 tees. Carts, bags and e-trolleys are available for hire. In winter, guests can practice on an indoor golf simulator. Kulm Golf Course St. Moritz The 9-hole course (par 27) in Kulm Park was originally laid out in 1891. The historic greens were designed by the St. Moritz golf architect Mario Verdieri and the Kulm Hotel. Short distances in beautifully landscaped terrain give the course a special charm. Novices can try their hand at the sport on the driving range, with its 16 tees, and on the pitching and putting greens; the Kulm Golf Academy provides individual and group tuition for beginners as well as more advanced players. The course itself is reserved for experienced golfers. After a game, enjoy mouth-watering refreshments at the attractive Chesa al Parc club restaurant. Margna Golf Academy The beautifully located practice facility at the Parkhotel Margna in Sils Baselgia, with its own 6-hole/par 3 academy golf course, offers experienced as well as novice golfers superb training opportunities in an exclusive setting. Attractions include a driving range with 14 tees and a chipping and putting green. Tee time reservations are not required: players simply pay a green fee at the reception of the Parkhotel Margna. Expert instruction is available at any time from seasoned PGA pros.

Kitesurfing on Lake Silvaplana

Adventures on rivers and lakes Sailing Glorious wind conditions as well as spectacular mountain scenery make the lakes of the Engadin (1,800m/5,900ft above sea level) a paradise for sailors. Every day around noon, the Maloja wind builds up to force 3-6 and drops again only at sunset. Kitesurfing Enthusiasts of this graceful sport have long appreciated the superb conditions on Lake Silvaplana. The dependable Maloja wind makes for speeds of up to 80km/h (50mph), with jumps as high as 30m (100ft) and flights lasting up to 20 seconds. The lakes and rivers of the Engadin also offer excellent fishing. Further information and details of other water sports: / water-sports

Windsurfing and stand-up paddling The play of wind on water is a sight guaranteed to set the pulse of windsurfers racing as they catch their first glimpse of beautiful Lake Silvaplana. Mornings, before the wind has built up, are perfect for stand-up paddling: set off across the mirror-like surface of any of the Engadin lakes and enjoy the blissful tranquillity.

Canoeing and kayaking The beautiful Engadin lakes, framed by breathtaking mountain scenery, are ideal for exploring at leisure by canoe. Thrill-seekers will enjoy the high-adrenalin alternative: a guided kayak trip along the wild river Inn. Swimming As well as the four big lakes along the main valley, the Engadin is home to many smaller lakes and pools hidden in the mountain forests, perfect for a refreshing dip on hot summer days. Among the most attractive are the Lägh da Cavloc near Maloja; the Lej Nair, whose surface mirrors the massif of the Piz Corvatsch; the Lej Marsch, just below the Lej Nair; the popular Lej da Staz; and the golf lakes outside Samedan.

Mountaineering, climbing and hiking up high With numerous peaks topping 3,000m (10,000ft), the Engadin offers a thrilling variety of challenges for mountaineers. Even without ice axe and crampons you can enjoy spectacular high-altitude adventure: hiking boots and poles are all you need to explore the attractive alpine routes with their distinctive white-blue-white markings. More thrills are to be had at the via ferratas (fixed-cable climbs) of La Resgia and Piz Trovat, at the high-rope adventure course near Pontresina and on the 17 rock climbing walls, which are suitable for beginners and families as well as experienced climbers. In poor weather, the stylish Serlas Parc indoor climbing centre offers the chance to improve your skills, whatever your level of ability.

Trail Running Enthusiasts of the increasingly popular sport of trail running are discovering the attractions of the Upper Engadin, with its high altitude and contrasting network of trails: from flat sections along the Upper Engadin lakes to challenging trailrunning routes that lead well above the treeline.

Further information on the region’s unspoilt nature : / authentic-nature

The Engadin enjoys a dry, continental climate. This is characterised by low humidity and great variations in temperature between summer and winter and between day and night. In summer, on sunny days, the celebrated Maloja wind usually rises around midday, reaching speeds of about 40kph (25mph) – bringing a refreshing coolness and providing excellent conditions for windsurfers, kitesurfers, sailors and glider pilots. The fresh mountain air also makes for a wholesome night’s rest: it is well worth sleeping with the windows open. The region is famously sun-blessed, with the number of sunny days well above average. On those occasions when the sun chooses not to shine, the Engadin still offers plenty to do – remaining true to its reputation as an exciting holiday destination full of variety.

Glaciers in the Engadin The Morteratsch Glacier stretches around 5.5km (3.5 miles), making it the longest in the Engadin and the tenth-longest in Switzerland. About 160 years ago, during the Little Ice Age, it reached almost to where Morteratsch station stands today. The mighty lateral moraines piled high with rock debris, which show the extent of the glacier in 1850, still dominate the flanks of the valley.

The spectacular display of colours staged by the larch trees through the seasons is one of the striking features of the Engadin. The pale green shoots, golden pollen cones and red cone blossoms of spring give way in summer to luscious green cones and needles. In autumn, the turning needles blanket the valley in gold. Also distinctive is the Swiss stone pine or Arolla pine: superbly adapted to the harsh winter climate, it can grow to 1,000 years old. One of the Engadin’s oldest specimens stands on the slopes of Muottas da Schlarigna. These Swiss stone pines can withstand temperatures ranging from +40 to -47°C (+104 to -53°F), and so form the upper limits of the mountain forests. The tree also has medicinal properties: its scent has a relaxing, soothing effect on the body.

St. Moritz was originally renowned for its mineral springs, frequented for more than 3,500 years. In 1864, the St. Moritz hotelier Johannes Badrutt invented alpine winter tourism here. Since then, the resort has staged two Olympic Winter Games (in 1928 and 1948) and numerous ski and bobsleigh world championships. The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships took place in St. Moritz for the fifth time during the winter season 2016/17. The summer season, too, offers a great variety of original sports and leisure activities as well as cultural attractions, seductive shopping and a packed calendar of world-class events. The superlative hotels and award-winning restaurants are also open throughout the summer. This attractive combination of nature, sports, culture, glamour and tranquillity, together with a beautiful lakeside location, makes St. Moritz the jewel in the Engadin’s crown.

St. Moritz is also famous worldwide for its “champagne climate” – not a reference to its champagne-drinking holiday visitors, but to the sparkling and invigorating climate of the Engadin. The geographical location on the southern side of the Alps enables St. Moritz and the whole Engadin to benefit from Italy’s warm climate in summer.

St. Moritz

The orientation of the broad valley, open to the south-west and the sun, gives rise to wonderfully bright, warmth-giving sunshine. Summer temperatures are never oppressive, however, thanks to the refreshing Maloja wind that blows from the south-west in sunny weather, bringing a pleasant coolness. These specific climatic factors, together with the high altitude at 1,800m (5,900ft) and the beauty of the landscape, all have a stimulating effect on the body – in particular on respiration, circulation and blood formation. Sports enthusiasts and athletes appreciate the altitude-training possibilities here – for example for athletics, triathlon, mountain biking or cycle racing.

At typical Engadin restaurants, with their elegant country charm, menus feature delicious local specialities such as capuns (chardwrapped dumplings), pizokels (buckwheat pasta), plain in pigna (baked potato hash browns with bacon), maluns (slow-fried potatoes with herb butter) and Zuozer Krautsuppe (Zuoz cabbage soup). and wishes of children and those accompanying them. The Bernina Glaciers region between Pontresina and

Cavaglia thrills visitors with its breathtaking beauty. Hike and bike along well-groomed and clearly marked trails, along dramatic glaciers and romantic mountain lakes and through fragrant alpine meadows and forests. Or climb the spectacular ridge of the Biancograt – equipped with ice axe and crampons – as you scale the 4,049-metre (13,284ft) Piz Bernina. A series of attractions for nature enthusiasts, in the village and in the area around Alp Languard, focuses on the local ibex population: with a little luck, you may well spot some of these majestic horned mammals. To relax, head for the Bellavita Pool and Spa, or dine in one of the cosy pine-panelled parlours or award-winning gourmet restaurants. Finish off with a concert at the Convention and Event Centre Pontresina – and you have a perfect day. Pontresina: for an unforgettable stay and the feeling you’ve found a home from home.

Celerina Tourist Information

Just because St. Moritz is its neighbour does not mean that Celerina stands in the former’s shadow; on the

contrary, this is the sunniest spot in the Engadin. Celerina’s shining attractions also include its charming

village centre, with its picturesque Engadin houses, and its incomparable range of leisure activities. The

F +41 81 830 00 19

cable car will whisk you up to dizzying heights, with magnificent views all around. Mountain bikers will

abundance of spectacular paths. The wide expanses of the main valley, too, cast a spell on visitors:

fragrant larch forests frame the path to Lake Staz, one of the most romantic places in the whole of the Engadin. Basking in the sunshine on a rocky spur is the village landmark, the 14th-century church of San Gian. Thanks to its central location, Celerina is just a hop from other highlights in the Engadin. In the evenings, too, the resort lives up to its reputation for variety – perhaps with a jazz concert in an elegant hotel ballroom. In August, the resort hosts the New Orleans Jazz Festival, and all year round there are restaurants that serve the spirit of the Engadin in the form of mouth-watering local cuisine.

HOTEL CRESTA PA L ACE The 4-star superior Cresta Palace enjoys an ideal location in the village heart. The “Staziun da Basa” and the hotel’s proximity to the mountain cableways make this the ideal base for active holidays in the Engadin. Via Maistra 75, 7505 Celerina, T +41 81 836 56 56 mail @,

Silvaplana Tourist Information

Silvaplana is a lively, young and trendy hotspot in the Engadin. Set in beautiful, unspoilt scenery, at

CH-7513 Silvaplana

the heart of the wide, lake-strewn valley of the Upper Engadin, the innovative holiday resort has

T +41 81 838 60 00

developed into a major international destination for sailing enthusiasts, windsurfers and kitesurfers,

F +41 81 838 60 09

with its own unique lifestyle. The conditions for water sports are the finest far and wide: with the

silvaplana @

reliability of a Swiss watch, the Maloja wind rises around noon, causing sails to billow and kites to dance /en /

across the waves. The sight is especially impressive during big international competitions such as the

“Engadinwind”, the windsurfing and kitesurfing regatta and the Engadin Surf Marathon on Lake Silvaplana. The resort is also known as the gateway to the Engadin, flanked by a resplendent row of imposing 3,000-metre (10,000ft) peaks including the local mountain Corvatsch – which means that mountain bikers and hikers, too, find countless opportunities for high thrills right on the hotel doorstep. Guests who prefer a more relaxing pastime can pick up a rod and try their luck fishing in the lakes. Just as varied as the range of outdoor activities on offer is the lively hotel and restaurant scene in the three districts of Silvaplana, Champfèr and Surlej: refreshingly young, innovative and dynamic.

Sils Tourist Information

This Engadin village of culture is world-famous: writers such as Nietzsche and Dürrenmatt, artists such as

CH-7514 Sils

Beuys and Chagall and musicians such as Strauss, Honegger and David Bowie were all inspired by the broad

T +41 81 838 50 50

expanses and the magical quality of light in Sils. Guests appreciate the peaceful tranquillity in a magnifi-

F +41 81 838 50 59

cent landscape, which offers a wonderfully enriching contrast to everyday life; they also value the relaxed

sils @

style of Sils’s hotels, guesthouses and holiday homes. With just 800 inhabitants, Sils is peaceful, relaxed /en /sils

and inviting. The village lies idyllically between Lake Sils and Lake Silvaplana at the entrance to the Val Fex, which visitors can explore on a romantic ride by horse-drawn carriage. Even a gentle stroll reveals the glories of this spacious landscape flooded with light, said to radiate a special energy. Those setting their sights higher find scenic and varied hiking and mountain biking trails up on Furtschellas, the local peak. Another way to enjoy the magnificent mountain landscape is on a trip on Europe’s highest-altitude scheduled boat service on Lake Sils. The village also charms guests with its performances of classical music on Sunday afternoons, readings, talks, guided tours, theatre shows and exhibitions. During summer, Sils presents five cultural gems: the Sils Hesse Days; a series of recitals performed on a raft in a picturesque bay by the Chastè peninsula; the “Kunst- und LiteraTourtage” (“Sils art and literature days”); the Nietzsche Colloquium; and the “Resonanzen” international culture festival.

Maloja Tourist Information

Maloja – the village at the mountain pass with a distinctly artistic touch. Here on the border with Italian-

speaking Switzerland, visitors appreciate the relaxed atmosphere, the spirit of famous artists, and the unique

natural and cultural heritage of a mountain pass region. The fascinating interplay of light and shadow has

F +41 81 824 36 37

long drawn artists. Giovanni Segantini chose Maloja as his final home as well as the setting for many of his

paintings of nature. Giovanni Giacometti, the father of Alberto Giacometti, also painted here. The spirit of /en /

these artists serves as inspiration to this day, in the form of exhibitions, readings and concerts at the Bel-

vedere Tower or the Chesa Bianca. Located at the head of the pristine Bregaglia valley, Maloja is especially popular with hikers, culture lovers and families. A dedicated path, the Sentiero Segantini, reveals the village’s secrets. Pizza-baking courses for children can be booked through the Hotel Schweizerhaus; the Capel smugglers’ trail promises pure adventure; the KuKuk playground is sure to delight every child; and Lake Cavloccio, at 1,907 metres (6,257ft), is perfect for a refreshing dip.

Bever Page 65

Bever Tourist Information

In the heart of the expansive, high valley of the Engadin, the charming village of Bever is a particularly

CH-7502 Bever

idyllic destination for families. Bever delights in letting visitors into its little poetic secrets – such as its

T +41 81 852 49 45

delightful gardens, its quaint windows set deep into thick stone walls, and its abundance of flowers adorn-

F +41 81 852 49 17

ing step railings and balcony balustrades. The mighty church tower rises towards the blue sky and boldly

strikes the time for the inhabitants – time that seems to pass at a more leisurely pace than elsewhere. The /en /

sun, too, seems particularly kind to this pretty little village. However, Bever’s most beautiful stories are told

just beyond the confines of the village – along the Fairy Trail through the Bever Valley. A path guides visitors through unspoilt nature from one fairy story to the next, all of them penned by Engadin women authors and brought to life by captivating sculptures created by local artists. These works mark the stations along the Fairy Trail and incorporate giant books with stories about witches, bears and fairies. Rumour has it that such fairy-tale characters may even come to life in the enchanted Bever valley. If you are very quiet and listen carefully, you might even hear the voice of a real-life gnome…

This patrician house dating from 1590 once belonged to the noble von Salis family. With all the charm of a private house, the Chesa Salis offers guests a relaxed vacation in Bever’s historic centre. Fuschigna 2, 7502 Bever, T +41 81 851 16 16 reception @,

The sun-blessed village stretches picturesquely between rugged peaks and fragrant pine forests, along the young river Inn and across the Engadin valley floor. This landscape offers a wealth of contrasting tours by mountain bike, road bike, on inline skates or on foot – for example, along the Engadin high-altitude trail at the Albula Pass or in the Val Chamuera. Families are particularly welcome in the village, and love the leafy playgrounds and barbecue sites by the water’s edge.

Madulain Tourist Information

Anyone looking for peace and quiet will find an oasis of tranquillity in Madulain. Although this village,

CH-7523 Madulain

the smallest in the Upper Engadin, has just 200 inhabitants, it nevertheless succeeds in captivating

T +41 81 854 11 71

visitors in a big way, thanks to its typical Engadin houses and its carefully fostered Romansh culture.

F +41 81 854 30 71

Madulain enjoys an idyllic setting by the river Inn, far removed from the rest of the world, basking

in the sun. Inline skaters, mountain bikers, horse riders and hikers enjoy a wide variety of trails. Although /en /

the village appears to be rather shy, it still knows how to impress visitors: such as with the Guardaval

ruins dating from the 13th century, the largest castle complex in the Upper Engadin. Or with an unforgettable visit to the legendary Es-cha hut, which stands at the foot of the Piz Kesch – proud, burnished by the sun and boasting spectacular views. Some of the most beautiful hikes pass this way. And if you were to believe the entries in the visitors’ book, the mountain hut certainly lives up to its claim of being “a haven in the storm”. A visit is more impressive still when the weather is fine – which is often the case, as the Engadin enjoys levels of sunshine well above the average. The hike from the village centre takes just two hours: the climb is well worth the effort!

HOTEL CHESA STÜ VA COL A NI Fully restored in every detail in 2013 using the finest materials. Today this is a boutique hotel that has retained the style, the atmosphere and above all the welcome of a private home. Via Principela 20a, 7523 Madulain, T +41 81 854 18 88 info @,

Life is good in Zuoz. Regarded as the most beautiful village in the whole of the Upper Engadin, the

Narrow alleys with numerous galleries lead visitors on tours of discovery through the village’s rich past. The

Gourmets delight in original restaurants, such as the Dorta, which reinterpret traditional Engadin cuisine

in virtuoso style. The village of 1,400 souls may cherish its traditions, but time has not stood still here – as shown by the attractive range of leisure and sports activities on offer, including a beautiful 18-hole golf course, a scenic inline skating route and an abundance of hiking and biking trails. Those who love seductive aromas will find themselves in heaven at the highest-altitude coffee-roasting plant in Europe, and can also learn all about the history of coffee at the Caferama Badilatti. Families, meanwhile, feel very much at home in the resort, awarded the coveted “Family Destination” label. After all, Zuoz offers all that children and parents desire for all-round happy holidays.

HOTEL C ASTELL “The fine art of relaxing” is the motto of this 4-star superior hotel, which occupies a wonderfully scenic position surrounded by nature above Zuoz. Modern rooms, innovative cuisine, and a breathtaking hammam. Via Castell 300, 7524 Zuoz, T +41 81 851 52 53 info @,

in Europe. On their return from their excursions, visitors are treated to a real gem: the unspoilt historic vil-

lage centre of S-chanf, full of genuine, irresistible charm and breathing the spirit of a culture that is strongly /en /

rooted in its Romanic origins. Of its 700 inhabitants, every second one speaks Romansh. They are proud,

too, of the pristine nature on the doorstep, so special that much of it is protected in grand style – as the Swiss National Park. Although over recent decades the hamlet has considerably gained in importance as a tourist resort, S-chanf has still managed to preserve its relaxed sense of tradition. Consequently, visitors encounter authentic Engadin lifestyle wherever they go. Here this seems as natural as the landscape all around – which is best explored on foot, such as along the popular long-distance hike to Livigno, on a variant through the wild Val Trupchun, or along another stage of the ancient packhorse trail to Davos.

gain a fascinating insight into the park’s variety at the visitor centre with its multimedia exhibition, open year-round and a big hit with children. Zernez also charms guests with its authentic Engadin architecture and lifestyle, as well as an excellent range of tourist facilities – including an attractive family and wellness pool, mini-golf course, playground and large campsite. Situated at the foot of the Ofen Pass, Zernez evolved over the centuries into an important transport hub linking Upper and Lower Engadin. Terms of contract and conditions of travel Page 81

Terms of contract and conditions of travel This brochure was compiled by the Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation on behalf of the service providers – hotels, airlines, etc. – listed therein.

01 Scope of these Terms of Contract and Conditions of Travel These Terms of Contract and Conditions of Travel govern the legal relationship between you and the service provider insofar as your contractual partner does not present terms and conditions at the time of booking. Unless expressly specified otherwise at the time of booking, your contract will be with the companies providing services, even if you place your booking through the Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation. In such cases, the Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation acts merely as an agent between you and the service provider; your contract is directly with the provider of the service booked.

02 Conclusion of contract and services provided Your contract with the service provider becomes legally binding when the booking office unconditionally confirms your booking. If the same booking office arranges other services and packages for you that are not booked from a publication of the Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation, these Terms of Contract and Conditions of Travel shall not apply. The services provided will be as specified in the booking confirmation and in the details provided of the service on offer. Unless stated otherwise in the product description, your activity will begin at the location specified in the contract.

03 Prices and terms of payment All prices are quoted in Swiss francs and are to be paid in Swiss francs. Unless otherwise agreed in your booking or in the booking confirmation, the price of your trip shall be payable in full upon booking. If the price is not paid in full by the date due, your contractual partner shall be entitled to withhold services, to withdraw from the contract and to demand the cancellation costs listed in paragraph 05. Note that if you book your trip through a different booking office such as a travel agent, this booking office may make additional charges for advice, reservations, etc.

04 Price and programme changes The service providers and the Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation are entitled to change the details of services and prices before a contract is signed. You will be informed of this at the time of booking. After the contract has been signed, prices can be increased up to three weeks prior to the beginning of your trip if the transport or accommodation costs, the charges for certain services, or the exchange rate have increased.

Changes to the programme and scope of services may also arise owing to unforeseen or unavoidable circumstances. Should any of the essential features of your trip change considerably and if you cannot be offered an appropriate alternative, you have the right to cancel your booking. In these circumstances, price increases of more than 10% count as a considerable change. Unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances may necessitate a change of programme even after your trip has commenced. Your service provider will endeavour to provide appropriate alternatives in such cases. The Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation will not refund any services not delivered and accepts no liability for programme changes.

05 Changes or cancellations requested by you If you wish to change your booking or to cancel your trip, you must notify the booking office directly. Any travel documents you have already received must be returned to the booking office at the same time. A service charge of CHF 60.– per person, max. CHF 120.– per order, will be levied for cancellations and changes (affecting names of travellers, dates, accommodation or additional services, etc.). If you cancel your trip or change your booking (name, date, accommodation, additional services, etc.) less than 31 days prior to departure, you will also be charged, in addition to any processing fee, for the following costs as a percentage of the total cost of your trip: • 30 to 15 days before departure 30% of the package price • 14 to 8 days before departure 50% of the package price • 7 to 1 days before departure 80% of the package price • on the day of departure and in the event of no-show 100% of the package price The critical date is that on which the booking office receives notice of your intentions; if that is a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, the next working day shall apply.

06 Late arrival or early departure of your own accord You are responsible for arriving on time. Should you arrive late, you cannot claim a refund for any services you have missed owing to your late arrival. Should you depart early, your expenses will not be refunded.

Early departure or exclusion occasioned by the service provider The service provider is entitled to end the service/trip prematurely in the event of unforeseen or unavoidable circumstances that would render fulfilment of contract impossible, considerably more difficult or dangerous for those taking part. If no alternative is possible, the service provider shall be exempted from its obligation to fulfil the contract. Your claim to a refund in such cases shall be limited to unjust enrichment. The service provider can exclude participants from the trip if their actions or omissions justify such a step. In such a case, the cost of the package shall still be due in full and there shall be no refund for services not received. Any claims for compensation are excluded.

08 Liability The Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation and the service providers accept no liability, to the extent provided for by law, for slight negligence on their own part or that of their agents. No liability is accepted for loss of, or damage to, valuables, cameras/camcorders etc., fur coats or other expensive items of clothing, mobile phones, credit cards, cash and other valuable objects or for unlawful use of the same. For packages, liability for anything other than personal injury shall be limited to twice the cost of the package. The limitations to liability specified in paragraphs 04 to 07 also apply.

09 Travel insurance Participants are strongly advised to take out travel insurance to provide cover for cancellation or early departure, incl. accident or sickness.

10 Applicable law and jurisdiction The contract between you and the service providers or the Engadin St. Moritz Tourism Organisation is governed exclusively by Swiss law. Exclusive place of jurisdiction for any disputes arising will be St. Moritz, Switzerland.
