subterranean wonder world What was created over millions of years can be experienced at the St. Beatus Caves in just one day. Approximately one kilometre of the subterranean wonder world - its huge dripstone formations, mighty streams and high rock cathedrals - are all accessible to visitors. Explorers begin the excursion with a trip alongside one of the most beautiful bays in Switzerland. A boat trip across deep-blue Lake Thun rounds off the excursion.

A scenic hiking trail winds down from the Niederhorn to the intermediate station at Vorsass, where a fleet of scooter bikes waits for you to cover the final stretch – the thrilling ride down to Beatenberg. carve your own cow! Woodcarving is the hallmark of Brienz – a village steeped in the tradition of handcraft. The Brienz Woodcarving Museum lets you experience this tradition at close hand. The permanent exhibition shows a wide range of traditional and artistically noteworthy woodcarving pieces from various eras. The visit also awards an insight into the Jobin workshops and you can look over the shoulders of the successors to the old masters. And if you want, you can even try your hand at the art of Schnätzen and carve your own wooden cow.

bls shipping company The BLS Shipping Company Bernese Oberland operates scheduled services, special themed cruises and custom-made cruises on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. The fleet consists of a total of 14 vessels including two nostalgic paddle steamers. interlaken – jungfraujoch The Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe, Europe’s highestaltitude railway station at 3454 metres above sea level, is the highlight of any visit to Switzerland. A highAlpine wonderworld of ice, snow and rock opens up to visitors and can be marvelled at from the vantage terraces, on the Aletsch Glacier or in the Ice Palace. On a clear day views extend as far as the Vosges in France and the Black Forest in Germany. Duration: 6–8h

wilderswil – schynige platte Those who visit Schynige Platte by cogwheel railway will feel as though they have been transported back to the belle époque era. The nostalgic railway takes 50 minutes to cover the 7 kilometre stretch. The wooden seats in the carriages and the rolling stock from the 19th century are reminders of times gone by. Schynige Platte is the starting point for spectacular hikes, as well as the Botanical Alpine Garden with 600 species of Alpine flora. Duration: 3–5h

brienz – brienzer rothorn The Brienz Rothorn Railway, with three generations of steam engines in daily operation, has been pounding and puffing its way from Brienz up the Brienzer Rothorn since 1892. The steam trains master a height difference of 1678 metres and open up breathtaking panoramic views. Duration: 3–6h

mürren – schilthorn – piz gloria Visitors to the Schilthorn with its striking revolving restaurant follow in the footsteps of Secret Agent 007. The Restaurant Harder Kulm, which resembles a tiny castle, is 1322 metres above sea level. beatenberg – niederhorn Horizons widen at 1950 metres above sea level! The Niederhorn excursion mountain lies high above Lake Thun; the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau can be admired in all their glory. mülenen – niesen The Niesen funicular travels alongside the world’s longest stairway up to an altitude of 2360 metres above sea level. From the summit of the pyramid-like mountain, visitors have an uninterrupted 360-degree panoramic view of the Bernese Alps, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, the Bernese Mittelland and as far as the Jura. lake thun – canoe route Paddle along and discover corners on the gentle southern shores of Lake Thun. Soak up the sun, enjoy gliding across the water and tank up on energy with grilled delicacies. The Lake Thun canoe route makes all this possible. Canoes can be hired and later returned at various points in Spiez and Faulensee: as a one-way offer or a round-trip. thun – summer & water fun aare The Aare flows more gently than the region’s wild mountain streams. The river offers tranquil fun on water to suit every taste. interlaken – rope park Interlaken Rope Park has eight courses in varying grades of difficulty and more than 90 different tasks to choose from. thun – arena thun events The Stockhorn Arena is YOUR stadium. It offers plenty of space and almost endless options for activities. Whether on the playing field, in the lounge or in the area encircling the stadium: groups have a wide range of thrilling, tricky or action-packed games to choose from. interlaken – curling fun You don’t usually lead friends, team mates or fellow club members into slippery situations. But with curling, the trendy indoor winter sport on sheer ice, things are rather different. On a fun curling session on Interlaken’s indoor curling rink, instructors help with your first steps on ice, demonstrate techniques and explain the rules of the game. stockhorn – tepee mountain olympics Olympics programme includes such disciplines as a snowshoe trail, snowtubing, waiters and waitresses and floating ball. stockhorn – snowshoe trekking Snowshoe trekking is a unique natural experience in the absolute tranquillity of the mountains. A large carpet of white now spreads out where until recently trails led through summer green. A guided snowshoe trek requires no previous experience and all material including safety equipment is provided. hofstetten – bergnatur pur nature trail There’s plenty to marvel at, discover and learn on the Pure Alpine Nature Trail, with stuffed animals, animal tracks and skins as well as trees and shrubs to identify at various stations. The experience trail puts coordination skills to the test with activities including sawing wood, nailing, rifle shooting, pine-cone throwing and frying eggs over an open fire. oberhofen – mumm Timepieces and mechanical musical instruments in different styles and from different eras are exhibited in the historic rooms of a medieval winery. Expert guides take visitors through five hundred years of creative craftsmanship and produce sounds from the instruments. A guided tour is ideal to combine with an aperitif in the museum. spiez – the medieval castle Set on a small peninsula, the castle and romantic castle church are among the most beautiful and impressive testaments to Bernese history on the shores of Lake Thun. thun – castle thun Thun Castle dates back to the High Middle Ages – and one of the castle’s main attractions is an exceptional room from this era. The Knights’ Hall is one of the largest and best preserved representative halls from the Middle Ages. In addition, a permanent exhibition provides information on the history of the town and region in the 19th century – when Thun was above all known as a garrison and tourist town. Duration: 1h

frutigen – tropenhaus A tropical paradise lies at the foot of the Bernese Alps: the Tropenhaus Frutigen. The Tropenhaus is an attractive excursion destination and is taking a leading role in the Alpine region in the use of renewable energy. It breeds sturgeon and produces caviar in an aquaculture facility and also grows fruit in the tropical garden. These fresh products are served in the two restaurants. The event area offers space for all types of events for up to 150 people. Duration: 1–3h

thunersee – panorama trail The interplay of colour on Lake Thun is fascinating at every time of year. And on a hike along the Panorama Trail, this emerald gem is repeatedly revealed from a different angle. Since 2012, the shore walk has been enhanced by two spectacular hanging bridges: over the Spissibach (stream) at Leissigen and over theGummischlucht (gorge) at Sigriswil. High above Lake Thun, the narrow walkways, though perfectly safe, it provides some nerve-tingling thrills.

interlaken – jungfraupark The unsolved mysteries of this world, a virtual flight over the Alps, the biggest children’s paradise in the region, a space shuttle flight to Mars: all this and much more is waiting for explorers of all ages in the Jungfrau Park Interlaken. interlaken – bödelibahn (road train) The nostalgic Bödelibahn takes you on a 30-minute trip through Interlaken, Unterseen, Matten and to Wilderswil, Lake Thun or Lake Brienz. Visitors learn interesting facts about the castle, the William Tell Open-Air Theatre, the Hardermannli, the River Aare, Unterseen’s old town and other special features of the Bödeli, the local name for the plain between the two lakes. spiez – spiezer zügli (road train) Spiez – the place of power beside the water – rises above truly the most beautiful bay in Europe. The Spiezer Zügli is an especially easy way to explore Spiez. The little train travels from the boat landing stage to the castle, on to the castle church, past the local history and viniculture museum to the station and back. Duration: 0.5–1h

spiez – viticulture Wine growing in Spiez can look back over a history lasting 1000 years. On a guided tour through the vineyards and the historic wine cellars, experts talk about the development of winegrowing in Spiez and daily life in the vineyard as it is today. This is followed by an aperitif or a tasting of quality wine at the location. Guided tours are available throughout the year except for the harvesting period from mid-Sept. to the end of Oct. beatenbucht – fischbalmen bunker The Fischbalmen infantry bunker at Beatenbucht on Lake Thun was built by civilian companies in 1941/1942. It was one of the Swiss Army defence points and remained a defence capability until the 1990s. Its mandate was to halt any adversary by the use of permanently installed and mobile weapons, and prevent advance to the Alpine redoubt. Duration: 1h

interlaken – ig bödeli-werke In the Second World War, five large fortification complexes hewn out of rock and concealed inside the mountain, all with corresponding command posts / fire control centres, as well as many larger and smaller installations were constructed around the Bödeli, the plain between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. The IG Bödeli-Werke Society owns and looks after these former military installations, preserving unique and typical objects and providing regular opportunities to view them. Duration: 1h

sigriswil – alp life not everyday life The bustle of everyday life is soon forgotten up on an alp; the views of the snow-clad four-thousand-metre mountains quickly banish any office stress. On a stay on an alp, those seeking peace and quiet can learn about different soils, Alpine plants and Kneipp hydrotherapy. And those who want can try their hand at cheese making – after getting their strength up with a substantial herdsman’s breakfast. Duration: 1 day

habkern – alphorn production The Tschiemer family knows how to get a good sound from wood. Their alphorn workshop in Habkern is the only one found far and wide. Heinz Tschiemer produces the Swiss national instrument using wood from Habkern’s mountain spruce forests. Visitors are welcome to look over his shoulder and watch the fascinating step-by-step process of producing an alphorn. Duration: 1–2h

thun – sculpture welding The programme supervisor welcomes you to the workshop in Interlaken or Thun, where the welding station has been prepared for you. Each team creates a Jean-Tinguely-style sculpture from the material provided. In the first 15 minutes the teams gather ideas, then spend 90 minutes sawing, filing, bending and welding to turn their ideas into a sculpture. Duration: 1.5–2h
