Sustainable events: A question check.
Location
Are the overnight location and the event location within walking distance of one another
Does the event location have an energy concept
Can the room temperature be lowered to save energy
Are there any unnecessary lights that could be switched off
Is the venue barrier-free
Are service providers hired from the region
Does the location have sports opportunities, such as yoga or pilates, or is it close to a jogging route
Organisation and follow-up
Will the invitations be sent out electronically
Can print products be dispensed with at the event
Should the event take place as a hybrid offering, or will it be recorded as a video
Does the event have a legacy programme or will the event support a project
Will the 17 Sustainable Development Goals be represented
Will exchange with the participants be promoted in a community following on from the event
Is the aim to have an equal number of female and male visitors
Has care been taken to ensure that there are equal numbers of female and male speakers on stage
Should unisex toilets be provided
Mobility
Is the venue easily accessible by public transport
Will the travel costs be covered by the organiser
Catering
Will food be offered
Should there be flying food or a buffet
Is it feasible to calculate just 80% of the guests actually present for the meal
Will drinking water be offered in PET bottles or with refill stations
Are other soft drinks regional and do they feature seasonal ingredients (e.g. apple juice)
Will meat dishes be offered
Where does the meat come from. Is it organically bred and from the region
Is the food predominantly vegetarian
Is there also a vegan option available
Is there collaboration taking place with an organisation regarding food waste
Can visitors take leftovers home with them –and are environmentally sound containers provided for this purpose
