Build Update: New Reception Classes Handed over I am delighted to announce that the Reception classrooms are now finished and they have been handed over to the school. The classes moved into their new rooms yesterday and are thrilled with their brand new learning environment. In a few weeks’ time, once they are settled we will arrange a time for the parents to visit the new rooms.

and enable the two Year 1 classes to be next to each other and share a quiet area. The corridor linking the new Reception classrooms will be completed after Easter. Old Nursery/ Hall The old Kiddies Nursery has now been handed over to the builders and this space will be converted into a small hall / dining area. The windows in the Hall and Key Stage Two block are now almost fully installed. During the Easter holidays the floor in the hall will be refurbished and the partition will be removed. The end date for the build still remains August 2013. KS2 Photography Workshop – Monday 11 March We have been invited to join in with an Arts Mark Photography Workshop, along with four other local schools. The workshop will take place during the school day on

Monday 11 March and will be for children in Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6). The children will spend the day working with Alicja Rogalska, a local contemporary artist who uses a range of media including photography and film. Each class will have an hour long session which will involve learning about the basic functions of a digital camera, and group work to create scenes in which to stage their own self portraits. The children will need props and costumes to use on the day such as hats, wigs, scarves, etc. This could also be a perfect opportunity to re-use the World Book day costumes! Please ensure that any props brought to school on the day of the workshop are in a clearly named plastic bag. A small selection of props will be provided by school and by the artist. We look forward to an exciting and creative day.

The Reception children will line up in the mornings on the KS1 playground near the gate that leads to their new reception block and will be collected at the end of the day from the same point.

Science Week ‘Invention and Discovery’ 15 March 24 March 2013

This year’s Science and Engineering Week t heme is ‘Invention and Discovery’. The idea is to celebrate the ‘everyman’ scientist and inventor and aims to highlight the science and engineering behind the nation’s favourite gadgets and products. Everything around us has at some point been invented. Ever yday problems lead to new innovations to find solutions. Explorers of the natural world continue to discover new things, from new species to space phenomena. As part of Science Week, the school would like to provide all children with a visit from either Zoolab or Starlab. Zoolab offer workshops for KS1 children and will be bringing a variety of animals to school on Tuesday 19 March. The workshop will include an animal handling session or a study of nocturnal animals. KS2 will enjoy a visit from Starlab, an inflatable planetarium, on Thursday 21 March. During this workshop, pupils will develop their knowledge of the Earth and Space. The voluntary contribution for these workshops is £2.00 per child.

Red Nose Day 2013 ‘Do Something Funny for Money’ Friday 15 March 2013 The school will be taking part in Red Nose Day on Friday 15 March and we are asking for a donation of 50p per child. The children may wear ‘mufti clothes’ and we ask that they wear something red. Keeping with tradition, we also give permission for them to do something different with their hair in support of the occasion. The children who swim on Friday 15 March (Years 4 & 5) will have to be more creative as they will not be able to wear face paints or hair dye due to the swimming lesson.

KS1 End of Day Collection Please could we remind parents that when they are dropping off and collecting their school children, they need to make sure any younger siblings are kept nearby. There have been several accidents where toddlers have fallen over and parents are unaware of this. Please could you ensure your children do not climb on the circular brick wall. Thank you for your cooperation.

PTA Promise Auction – Saturday 23 March 2013 The PTA Promise Auction will be held Saturday 23 March 2013, 7.30pm for 8 pm start. The Promise Auction is one of the PTA’s largest fundraisers of the year. The evening is actionpacked and entertaining as people bid for the many promises and donated items. Please see a PTA representative for tickets.

Reception Scooter Skills Training – Tuesday 26 / Wednesday 27 March 2013 The School Travel Plan Working Group will be carrying out a Scooter Skills Training session for our Reception children. The session will take place on the school grounds during school time on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 March and will be delivered by the class teachers and Nicky Wood, one of our STPWG representatives. The session will involve road and safety awareness, driver and pedestrian awareness and general scooter etiquette. The session will be conducted through a series of interactive and fun training games. If this session is well received, we aim to roll it out across the rest of KS1 by the end of the Summer Term 2013. We will also be holding a Scooter Workshop for parents during our Friday PTA Coffee Morning on Friday 19 April 2013 where some of our Reception children will be showcasing some of their new scooter safety skills. A Safe Scooter leaflet will also be distributed to parents to support the workshop.
