ST LUKE'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH!

OCTOBER 2013

Message from the Youth Director It’s been a whirlwind first month for me! Everyone is returning from summer vacations and last-chance efforts to milk the summertime sun and warmth. I have thoroughly enjoyed this time with y’all, and I look forward to what is coming ahead... The nursery / cry room will be completed and ready for the little ones within these next couple of weeks. I will be having a “painting party” on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 12:00 after ECW. I will have all the paint and supplies ready. I would love to have 4 or 5 volunteers to come dressed in your “grubbies” and to help paint, put together cribs, and general set up of the nursery. Since the nursery is St. Luke’s “new baby,” we will have a Baby Shower during coffee hour on Sunday, Oct. 20. I have registered at Wal-Mart for general nursery supplies. Please join in the fun by welcoming our new bundle of joy! The nursery / cry room is available to all children who are still in diapers during Sunday morning worship or for those families who wish to step away for a moment during the service. I so appreciate those who have volunteered to work in the nursery; I will be setting up an organized rotation and publishing that on the website under Youth Ministry within the next week or so. Moving to the older ones... We will be starting a lectionarybased Children’s Chapel this next Sunday, Oct. 6. My desire is to offer an option for families who wish their children to learn the stories of the Gospel readings for each Sunday but on a smaller scale for the younger ones. Ideally, I wish for all families to share at home what they learned in church from either Fr. John’s sermon or the lesson from Children’s Chapel. The children will join me and another volunteer parent in the Chapel for about 30-40 minutes for the lesson and a few activities; then rejoin their families and the church during The Peace to participate in Communion and blessings. Just like the nursery rotation, I will be organizing a volunteer rotation and publishing it on the website under Youth Ministry as well. And moving on to the older, older ones... We have begun Youth Group on Wednesdays. We, like the Adult Spiritual Education class also on Wednesday, are studying The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning. We are learning more about God’s grace and His passion for us despite our crazy choices, our fluctuating emotions, and our often-wavering faith. (Continued on Page 5) !
