TURNERS HILL PARISH NEWS MAY 2020 PUBLISHED BY ST LEONARD’S CHURCH Edition Number 396
VILLAGE IN LOCKDOWN
I
n so many ways, the picture says it all about about our first full month of coronavirus lockdown. It was taken at the village crossroads in what would normally be evening rush-hour – not a single vehicle, nor person in sight. These are indeed strange, discomforting and worrying times. Some, however, have found comfort in a lockdown tranquillity enhanced by a spell of glorious spring weather. Nevertheless, constraints and changes to our way of life have been severe. In many cases they have been difficult and depressing. Despite it all, our community has remained strong, resilient and very much together. Certainly, along with our essential village shops and other vital services, the Parish News is determined to keep serving the community as normally as possible. INSIDE THIS EDITION: With much emphasis on applauding and supporting the NHS, it’s appropriate that this month’s centre-page interview features Dr. Dan Jefferies of Crawley Down Health Centre which cares for so many in Turners Hill. There’s news from Turners Hill Fire Station, from our Parish Council, from village organisations and our Churches. We also report the welcome refurbishment of village green memorial benches; and offer another entertaining seasonal Sussex Notebook. Had it not been for lockdown, this month would have seen special events celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Instead, Mid Sussex District Council invites contributions to its ‘Virtual VE Day.’ Otherwise, on a very sad note, this edition carries the Obituary of Mark Taylor, a popular village resident, following his recent untimely death. Finally, with a rather blank lockdown diary, this month’s back page is given over to a bright, delightful springtime picture…….
