From Our Closet to Yours expands for Oct. 19 event: Donations being accepted up to Oct. 15
By DOREEN BARNES Events – From Our Closet to Yours, was so popular during its first ever event, it has expanded now to include more for those who attend. On Saturday, Oct. 19 people are invited to visit Centennial Road Church, 3545 Centennial Rd., County Road 27, Lyn, to obtain good quality clothes for free from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. “Originally, the event was started in an effort to provide women returning to the workforce with the opportunity to receive good interview and work clothes without a huge expense, said coordinator Tina Murray. “After the first event last year, it was discovered that men need clothes too, so it has been expanded. It now includes women’s, men’s and children’s wear. The clothes Murray is referring to are shirts, blouses, skirts, trousers, infant wear, jackets, coats, jeans, sweaters, vests with exception to under garments; under garments will not be accepted as donations nor be available. If individuals have infant and children’s wear to donate, From Our Closet to Yours would be very grateful for these items. From Our Closet to Yours will only

From Our Closet To Yours coordinator Tina Murray (left) and volunteer Tanya Lake (right) are grateful to the public for giving donations of clothes and hope to receive more infant or children’s clothes to give people a wider selection. If you have good quality clothes that you no longer wear, think about donating those garments to this event which will benefit other individuals.
accept donated clothes until Tuesday night, Oct. 15, as they need to sort and arrange the clothes for Saturday. People will not have the opportunity to try on clothes, in privacy, as the gymnasium does not have the available space for a changing room. Murray did mention that thanks to Brockville City Bus Lines, transportation has been arranged for a school bus to provide rides in Brockville, from pick-up points of Brockville Collegiate Institute, 90 Pearl St. E., near the Quality Hotel and Conference Centre Royal Brock, 100 Stewart Blvd., and Kensington Plaza with drop-offs at Centennial Road Church. “The first bus stop will be at 8:15 a.m., at Brockville Collegiate Institute, 8:30 a.m. at Quality Inn Royal Brockville and 8:45 at Kensington Plaza, to be at Centennial Road Church for 9 a.m., advised Murray. “Then it will loop back and do it again. So at 9:15 and 10:15 a.m., the school bus will be Brockville Collegiate Institute, 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., at Quality Inn Royal Brock and 9:45 and 10:45 a.m., at Kensington Plaza. Murray indicated that the after the third bus run and upon arrival at the church for 11 a.m., no more pick-ups will be made until people are ready to return
to their original destinations. In addition to transportation, Murray has asked the Employment and Education Centre to be available to provide interviews and resume writing tips. “There will be a children’s activity area that will allow parents the time to sort through clothes and meet with the Employment and Education Centre, added Murray. “Plus Natasha Annable from Flair FX on King Street Brockville is donating her time to give children free haircuts that morning. She will be bringing one of her specialty chairs. As well, the Volunteer Bureau of St. Lawrence-Rideau will be on the premises to help people become connected with the community. “I know people who started volunteering at the Volunteer Bureau and eventually got full time jobs, said Murray. “Volunteering can lead to a job. “We want people to be able to take their children out for an evening, go to church, have photographs taken, or go for a job interview and not worry about their clothes, said Murray.
