Boys lacrosse at St. John’s began in 1980. After a 3-6 record in their first season, St. John’s improved to 6-3 in 1981. Jack Crawford and Chuck Johnston were two leaders in the early years of lacrosse. Crawford eventually played collegiate lacrosse at Johns Hopkins, while Johnston played at Drexel.

1985

An inconsistent regular season ended in triumph in 1985. Led by first year head coach Palmer Leutjen, St. John’s posted a 3-5 record. Entering the Washington Area Lacrosse League Tournament as decided underdogs, St. John’s avenged a regular season loss by defeating Robinson. St. John’s advanced to the semifinals and easily defeated Sandy Springs. The season ended on a high note as the Cadets 10-7 win over Oakton gave St. John’s a WALL Division B Championship.

2000

Cabell Maddux came in as head coach in 2000. He was a former All-American at Hobart College in New York, where he was a member of two NCAA Division III National Championship squads.

2002

In 2002, St. John’s posted a 15-5 record and faced off against DeMatha for the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title. However, DeMatha scored three early goals en route to a 15-8 win to claim the title.

2004

The 2004 team posted a 10-7 record and finished third in the WCAC. Earning All-WCAC First Team honors were: Vince Giganti, Cyrus Albertson, Riley Clark, Scott Collins and Brett Scott. Sean Reppard, Brian Jones, Colin Jackson and Scott Hall were named to the second team, while Chris Carroccio was an honorable mention selection.

2007

Danny Phillips was hired as the new head coach prior to the 2007 season. He had previously served as head coach at Good Cousel and Quince Orchard, both in Maryland. St. John’s posted a winning record in 2007, including a 9-0 mark against non-conference foes. However, their season ended with a first round defeat to St. Mary’s Ryken in the WCAC Tournament.
