LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends,

SJV CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS POINSETTIA SALE

Having observed Thanksgiving Week and Day, we Catholics center our thanksgiving weekly at the Eucharistic Table. In our culture, “Thanksgiving” can be isolated to a once a year observance or public display. The needs for giving thanks are intimate and personal, as well as public. Catholic Christians won’t settle for once a year.

Reminder: Poinsettia orders may be picked up in Fr. Engels Hall on Saturday, December 1st between 3:00 pm and 5:30 pm. Please note: orders for Memorials and/or the Tribute to our Troops will be delivered directly to the church for decorating for Christmas.

This weekend, is Christ the King, and is traditionally in our country the second collection for Campaign for Human Development. The US Bishop’s have supported and sponsored this Campaign each year to cement their commitment to not forget the poor, and to offer particular ways in which issues of poverty and Gospel justice can be connected. Isn’t it true that “somebody’s ox is always getting gored?” Helping the poor may threaten the status quo of a situation that others resist or resent. It is not easy to determine where true Gospel justice is to be applied. Thus, discernment takes time, dialogue, engagement, prayer, work, fairness, openness, and collaboration for the best processes to emerge. I urge you to be generous with this Second Collection this weekend.

ADORATION “NOT JUST ANOTHER MEETING”

This weekend, we are also opening up Stewardship of Prayer, the first aspect of living a Stewardship life. Prayer is the arrow always aimed at God. By that I mean when we pray, we are seeking the Lord first above all else. It is within our companionship with the Lord that our prayer needs ripen and bear fruit. You will be invited to consider how you will make your prayer stewardship for the coming year. Prayer is a personal act, as well as public. Our parish depends on your prayers to uphold us in life. Next weekend, is the first Sunday of Advent, and the beginning of Sunday Cycle C, the Gospel of St. Luke. For weekdays, we will begin the weekday readings Cycle I [for odd numbered years.] We enter a new Church year, looking forward in hope for the Lord’s coming in glory, and again, his coming at Bethlehem. Have a wonderful week ahead. Love,

All are invited on Tuesdays to continue their worship and love of God at adoration. It is a visit, not a meeting. A visit of ‘love to love’. Bring whatever is in your heart and soul and leave it at the feet of the Lord for HE will be at yours. “Adoration for the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth”. -Mother Theresa Join us every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm for Eucharistic Adoration. Taking special time with our Lord is a great way to grow closer to Him.

TOTAL STEWARDSHIP BE GENEROUS, READY TO SHARE

We Remain Persistent in Prayer Next week, you will be asked to fill out a Prayer Commitment Card. Whether prayers offered in silent meditation and reflection, or prayers said before meals or during Mass, each of us can pursue a life of meaningful prayer commitment. In many ways, we can choose to pray regularly. In faith, we trust God and his goodness, and remain persistent in prayer. In the Scriptures, we learn that God is attentive to the cries of his children. He truly listens. We also learn that, unlike men, God is always just and fair. For us, the biblical parable concerning a determined widow, a woman who targeted a dishonest judge and was relentless in her pursuit of fairness, illustrates the concept of persistence in prayer. The story reminds us of the “necessity for us to pray Always without becoming weary.” In faith, we remain persistent. Parish Stewardship Summary Fiscal Year to Date Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, you stewardship will be in the next bulletin. Disaster Relief Team Member: Linked to Catholic Charities and Red Cross, this group creates a comprehensive disaster response plan: cleanup, transportation, meals, financial aid, housing and shelter management. [As needed.]

We love to hear from you… You would be amazed by the volume of information that flows through our parish records office each week! We appreciate everyone who updates records and lets us know when you move, get a new phone number, etc. All of this is very important for sacramental records and is essential for parish services. Quite often you might be “using up” old checks that don’t match our records. When this is the case, could you please note the situation on your check. Thanks for helping us keep our records up-to-date by: Informing the front office or Mickie Marchiafava of any address, phone number or membership changes. Identifying your tithing by check, cash in an envelope (with name and address) or simply use our visiting envelopes in the back of church. Confirming that you ARE registered in the parish. Parish registration forms are in the front of church. Thank you! Mickie Marchiafava

2013 – 25th & 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY NEWS THE GIVING TREE Our Advent Giving Tree is located in church near the Sacristy. Each family wanting to participate in this outreach ministry is asked to take an ornament from the Giving Tree and prepare their gift for the person described. It is important that the gifts be returned under the tree by December 9th. The ornaments will provide an opportunity for us to reach out to those persons facing the holidays with inadequate funds, those who are ill or homebound, and those preparing to receive the sacraments. Please offer your prayers for these individuals during this holiday season.
