THE GIVING TREE We can prepare for the Advent season by sharing our gifts with others. Next week, November 17th & 18th, we will place in church our Giving Tree. Each family wishing to participate is asked to take an ornament from the tree and prepare their gifts for the person described. It is important that everyone return the gifts by December 9th. Some of the ornaments on the giving tree are for people in our community who face Christmas without adequate funds. Please purchase one of the suggested items listed on the ornament, put in a gift bag, and attach the ornament to the bag. Please do not put cash in your gifts. Bring your gifts to church no later than December 9th. Some ornaments will ask that you pray for those in our parish who are ill or lonely, or that you call a homebound person and arrange a visit or mail a Christmas card to that person. If you do this, please try to find time to do so all year, not just at Christmas. Some ornaments will ask for prayers for those preparing to receive the sacraments. Please pray for that person during this season. By giving of yourself you will bring the true spirit of Christmas to many. This opportunity is sponsored by our parish Social Responsibility Ministry.
STEWARDSHIP OF PRAYER In Prayer, We Learn the Will of God This week, we begin the Stewardship of Prayer phase of our Total Stewardship program. You’ll soon receive an introductory brochure regarding this foundational aspect of healthy spiritual stewardship. Continued inside bulletin….
LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, This weekend, is our Fall Fishing With Mom and Dad Outing at Waddill Wildlife Refugee. Over the past several years we’ve had this outing there with happy faces. I’m hoping for the same, weather permitting and fish biting. Thanks to Community Life Commission for this effort. This weekend, we welcome Fr. Philip Chircop at all the Masses. He will introduce the upcoming Parish Mission Unwrapping the Gift of Faith. For one year, beginning last month through next November, the Church will celebrate a Year of Faith, coinciding with the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council. During the Parish Mission, Fr. Philip will explore simple concrete tools and practices that can help us, pilgrims on the way, unwrap the great gift of Faith. Making a retreat yearly is a fruitful spiritual practice and Fr. Philip is quite gifted as a director. He will begin at 7:00pm Monday -Wednesday, November 12th-14th. He will repeat the evening session in the morning Monday-Wednesday at 9:15am. The GIVING TREE is coming soon. You will be able to provide a gift for someone who is serviced by one of the organizations we are supporting. I am truly amazed at the variety of ways our parish is generous to others all through the year. Thank you. The Capital Campaign continues to move forward. To the many who have returned your letters of intent with your decision, I am very grateful. Prayers and pledges move us forward. You noticed the large thermometer which was put on the Church and School grounds. This gives you a little visual of where we are at. This point we have close to $1.8million in pledges and nearly $500,000 in cash. The Campaign Committee continues to work to make sure that those who have been contacted return their letters of intent; and those who have not yet been contacted are. This is a community wide effort and when we are successful it will be because as many as possible have contributed their prayers and pledges to this effort. Looking around the campus, this is how everything we have and call our own came to be. Thanksgiving Day provides us a chance to give thanks at Eucharist. I hope you will join us at 8:30am for Mass and the annual blessing of bread and wine. Hope to see you then.
I hope this week brings you consolation and joy. Love,
BAPTISMS We welcome the following children to our parish family through the Sacrament of Baptism:
Samuel Vincent Noto son of Henry and Jene’ Noto. Alyssa Grace and Reagan Hope Oubre twin daughters of Christopher and Tanya Oubre.

UNWRAPPING THE GIFT OF FAITH: DAILY DWELLING IN POSSIBILITY Between October, 2012 and November, 2013 the Catholic Church will be celebrating The Year of Faith, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council and the 20th anniversary of the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. During the upcoming parish retreat we will explore simple and concrete tools and practices that can help us, pilgrims on the way, to unwrap the precious gift of faith. Our hope is that we become creative artists of the Good News in a seemingly “bad news” world.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY NEWS Together Baton Rouge Upcoming Events Please mark your calendars for the following Together Baton Rouge sponsored events coming up during November. Last year you may recall that there was a problem with the operations at the Gilbert Memorial Cemetery in north Baton Rouge. TBR has been working on this project for almost a year and the transfer of receivership to new management will take place soon. There will be a community clean-up at Gilbert Park Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, November 19th, starting at 8:00 a.m. This is a great family or small group service project as well as a good opportunity for student service hours. Also, coming up on Tuesday, November 27th at 6:30pm at St. Mary’s Baptist Church there will be a gathering of family and friends of individuals who are in prison. This is a new TBR outreach in our community that is much needed. You may find out more information about either of these events by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Catholic Campaign for Human Development Collection date: November 24/25 In a couple of weeks our parish will participate in a nationwide effort to fight the cycle of poverty in America. With the tradition of improving education, housing situations, and economic development, CCHD continues to make a positive impact in communities nationwide. You can help participate in this tradition by supporting CCHD through your prayers and financial gift. We will offer a 2nd collection at all of the Masses the weekend of November 24th & 25th.
