Fill a Prescription for the Needy March 22nd & 23rd

The St. Vincent de Paul Community Pharmacy has demonstrated excellence in providing prescription medications to individuals in the 12 civil parishes of our Diocese since opening in 1995. Last year, they filled more than 38,000 prescriptions valued at more than $3.1 million, but could not fill all the prescriptions that people in our community so desperately needed. Through the community pharmacy, our Diocese is improving the quality of life for many of the needy by filling life-sustaining prescriptions for illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. This year the Fill a Prescription for the Needy effort is geared to helping the pharmacy secure the funding it needs to provide the many life sustaining prescriptions we are currently unable to fill. You can make a significant difference in someone’s life by supporting this effort the weekend of March 22nd and 23rd. You can participate by removing the label from an empty prescription bottle at home and bringing it to church with a financial gift inside. This bottle can be placed in the Fill a Prescription for the Needy canister at the entrance of the church. Empty bottles will be available next to the display. We ask for your support this Lenten season - through prayer, volunteering and financial support, if possible. We thank you in advance for helping our Church to make such a remarkable impact in the lives of the poorest of our Diocese. Together we are truly filling this critical community gap in our local healthcare delivery system.

LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, Another year of planning has led us to this weekend for women, offering an opportunity for spiritual growth in Christ. As you go about your weekend, please pray for those on the weekend and those giving the weekend. The graces of such a retreat will unfold for our parish in the months ahead. Thanks to all who are providing the person-power for the Women’s Retreat to be successful. St Patrick’s Day is Monday, the 17th. I can claim Irish in my heritage from my mother’s side of the family tree. I am a mixture of all kinds of cultures and heritages which makes my life all the richer. I recently celebrated Mass with the Catholic High School Community and I focused the homily on diversity amongst peoples. We have nothing to fear from diversity-but we should fear sin, which after all, looks only for the worse in people, the evil intent hidden beneath every word or gesture or look. How is your Lenten season going??? The parish offers you many opportunities to extend your faith life during this season of springtime. Consider coming to the sacrament of Penance during Lent in our Parish, either on the Monday Nights of Lent, or at the Parish Lenten Penance service, April 1st, 7:00pm; or, in one of the area Churches on the Wednesday nights of Lent. I am grateful to the organizations who are offering the Lenten Dinners each Friday. While it is hardly a penance to abstain from meat in our part of the world, its good community to come together to enjoy food and friendship in any season of the year. Thanks to all who have returned your 2014 Stewardship of Finance Commitment forms. I am grateful to you for your support and encouragement in the effort to provide a good Catholic parish to our community. Not too early to be planning to attend Holy Week at SJV: Holy Thursday, 7:00pm, April 17; Good Friday, 3:00pm, April 18; Holy Saturday Easter Vigil, 8:00pm, April 19th; Easter Sunday, 7:30am, 9:30am, 11:30am, April 20th.

Have a good week. Love,
