LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, The Holy Day collections each year help fund the many parish ministries of Social Responsibility. This year the Holy Days of January 1st, Mary, Mother of God and the Feast of the Ascension [transferred to Sunday, May 20th] fell on a Sunday; Social Responsibility ministries did not receive any of the funds collected. Therefore, we will have an opportunity next weekend, on July 14th-15th, to designate our contributions directly to the ministries of Social Responsibility with a 2nd collection to be offered at all of the Masses. Your generous support is so appreciated. Our parish does very good work in the area of Christian Initiation, i.e., adult preparation for the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and eucharist. This is done through the Rites of Christian Initiation, RCIA, also called the Catechumenate. Our RCIA team faithfully serves each Wednesday night at 7:00pm, ready to receive any adult who is interested in moving in this area of initiation. This coming week, some of our Team will be involved in the Diocesan RCIA Steering Committee’s work to help oversee the Diocesan effort in initiation. St. Jean Vianney helps provide leadership in this area of Church life within the parish and in the Diocese. I thank the Team members for their faithful service. During the summer we will begin hearing Gospels from St. John called the “Bread of Life “ series. These Gospels will give insights into the Eucharistic life we share. This will serve as reminders about how we receive Holy Communion and why we do so. It is also a good time for those who do not receive Holy Communion to think about why this may be so. Why don’t you come and talk with me and lets see what we can do together. The Eucharist is the center of Catholic faith: we believe that Jesus gave us this way to intimately remember him. Consider this special time of grace as a weekly retreat into the heart of Christ. Blessings in the week ahead….. Love,

We extend our sympathy to the following parishioners who recently lost a loved one:

 To the family of Pat Callies.

A REFLECTION ON THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL Fourteenth Sunday Ordinary Time Gospel: Mark 6:1 – 6 Reflection: Denise Louviere Jesus had problems with his own family and community. He said, “A prophet is despised only in his own country, among his own relations and in his own house”. Where there is no acceptance of faith, people can do nothing. The preconception prevents this. Even if Jesus wanted to do something, he couldn’t, and he was amazed at the lack of faith by the people. For this reason, behind the closed door of his own community, he began to teach as he toured the villages. His experience of rejection, led him to change his practice. Sadly, today’s Gospel tells us that the closed minds of the people limited Jesus’ power to help them. Do our closed minds about some people limit God’s power to improve our lives? When was I surprised by an insight or action of another whom I thought I knew everything about? “Lord, this week help me to……….”
