LIFE TOGETHER The iGospel in the Digital Age Our four adult children pulled us screaming into the digital age last Christmas. Both Lisette and I converted to iPhones and to what we call, our wePad, which we share. We've grown to love them because we can "facetime" with our children and grandkids who live in other parts of the country and stay in almost constant contact with our family by voice, video and by text. These ingenious devices have also introduced us to applications which have given our prayer lives a whole new dimension. God has always used the latest technology to spread his word. From the written scrolls, letters and Gospels of the Old and New Testaments, to the printing of the Gutenberg bible, to the first televangelist Bishop Fulton Sheen, to today's incredible digital world, God's word is fully adaptable to every medium and to whatever means it is heard, viewed or read. So, here are a few Catholic applications (teckies call them "aps") that we have found particularly helpful as we have become more i-lterate in our use of the iGospel. Some are free and some require a onetime fee. All can be used on iPhones and iPads and most, we're pretty certain, are available for other brands of digital devices. First, the freebies. The Word of God can be used to both read and hear daily Mass readings, and you can select readings far into the future. If you would like to join Catholics worldwide in the universal prayer of the Church, download ibreviaryTS and you'll find the complete compilation of the Liturgy of the Hours. This ap also features the Mass of the day, using the New Roman Missal. If you prefer radio and television to connect with the iGospel, there are free applications for you, too. Check out Catholic TV, where you will find programming from the Catholic Television Network, the same network that provides much of the content of our diocesan television station. Or, you could download Catholic TV & Radio to watch or listen to EWTN, Catholic Answers or Fr. Robert Barron's Word on Fire. If you'd like to invest a few bucks, you'll find even more wonderful, strictly Catholic applications. The most expensive is The Divine Office ($19.99), and

it's an audio version of daily prayer of the Church, along with the beautifully sung hymns that accompany these beautiful readings and invocations. Another is the iMissal, ($4.99) a remarkably versatile application that is keyed to the New Roman Missal, presents daily Bible verses, links users to current Catholic news and events and has slew of our traditional Catholic prayers. For those who want the word of God as a sword in their digital sheaths, there is the NABRE Bible ($7.99), the revised edition of the New American (Catholic) Bible. If you are a regular walker like we are, consider TuneIn Radio (just .99 cents!) and you can listen to the Baton Rouge Catholic Radio Station, WPYR, anytime, anywhere in your neighborhood…and anywhere in the world! Finally, if you are trying to find the last chance Mass anywhere around the globe, download Catholic Mass Times. You'll find the names of nearby churches and their Mass times. Like our salvation, this ap is FREE! No doubt technology will find more innovative ways to communicate over the next decades, but we can be assured that God will use these innovations to continue to spread his iGospel to the entire world! Blessings!

Go to to get your online copy of Stewardship Today, a monthly publication for parishioners to embrace the importance of stewardship in daily living.

Everyone Bears a Portion of the Load Our Stewardship of Ministry emphasis begins soon, and you will receive introductory material concerning it in the mail. Through your study of that material, you will learn more about this aspect of our Total Stewardship program and have the chance to indicate your level of involvement, prayerfully considering the parish ministries in which you’d most like to participate. Please Be Generous with your time, Ready to Share your efforts and gifts. In his Letter to the Galatians, St. Paul encouraged the members of those churches to pull their own weight, to share the load of ministry. That invitation extends to you too. Please pray about your response to such an important invitation. Parish Stewardship Summary Fiscal Year to Date July 1, 2012 to July 22, 2012

CANCER STUDY RECRUITMENT Did you know that half of all men and one third of all women will develop cancer during their lifetime? Did you know 26 people will die of cancer today in Louisiana? Did you know that with 9,150 predicted cancer deaths in 2012, Louisiana is ranked 2nd nationally in cancer mortality? That is 15% higher than the U.S. average. The American Cancer Society is conducting a new, nationwide study to identify lifestyle, environmental, and genetic risk factors associated with cancer. The information learned from the Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS3) will be used to design better strategies for cancer prevention, early diagnosis and treatment. The ultimate goal of CPS-3 is to reduce the occurrence of cancer and increase survival rate. Together Baton Rouge is partnering with the American Cancer Society in its efforts to enroll participants for this study. You can make a difference in our lives and, more importantly, in the lives of our children and grandchildren. Please see the bulletin insert to learn details of how to become a participant in CPS-3. For more information, contact Vicki Brooks (756.0941) or Vicki Dauterive.
