LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, We begin Catholic Schools week this week being one of the parishes with a School to give parents a choice in how they would want their child educated and religiously educated. Our School has been a part of our parish mission for 25 years. Over those years the School has contributed to the formation of so many children who have gone on in their educational and career endeavors with a sure foundation. So, we have lots to be grateful for such a ministry effort. On February 1st, there will be an Open House for prospective students. Go to www.stjeanvianneyschool.org for more details. I appreciated your attentiveness this past weekend as I offered you my financial stewardship encouragement. This weekend is the time to make the financial commitment to support the parish ministries. I am grateful to you for your consideration and urge you to help our parish thrive to do the mission of Christ. Recently parishioners who are working on the Together Baton Rouge effort met with Mrs. Lori Aucoin to work on our parish participation in this city-wide effort. More to come. Last weekend, our second graders shared in the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. They are in the process for their first Communion after Easter. Confirmation candidates are also in process with their retreat on February 5th. On February 19th, Praying With the Scriptures will be offered from 9:00am-Noon in the Library. This will be a Study morning-Prayer morning introducing a person to the ways in which Scripture can be used for prayer. On Super Bowl Sunday, February 6th, the Sunday evening Mass, will be at 4:00pm instead of 5:30pm. No matter who you are for, this gives folks a chance to attend Mass and still attend to the other business of watching the game.☺ I hope your week is a blessing. Love,

1380am/wpyr Catholic Radio for your Community. HMMMMM, Have you ever wondered….? Why do Catholics have to go to confession? What does “transubstantiation” mean? Why should I believe the Gospels? Weren’t they written by ordinary men? What’s the difference between the Catholic Church and Protestant Churches? How do we know Jesus is the Son of God? How do the Ten Commandments relate to me? If these questions sound familiar, tune into 1380am/wpyr, Catholic Radio for your community.

A CALL TO THE SERVANTS OF GOD : Born in the Spirit of Faith This week, you will receive material inviting your involvement in the Stewardship of Finance phase of our Total Stewardship program. When you open your packet, please take note of the enclosed Commitment card. We encourage everyone to consider a financial commitment to God’s work through the ministries and programs of our Parish church. Remember that generosity is meant to embody free acts, neither conditional nor coerced by anyone else. After you’ve indicated your planned commitment, please bring your card with you next week and celebrate God’s goodness to us in our Stewardship Sunday service. To the First Century church at Corinth, St. Paul shared his perspective on the subject of giving: “Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” An eagerness to give is like a willingness to serve. A good attitude is critically important. And, for giving to feel truly ‘free,’ generous acts must be unadorned by unnecessary expectation; they must feel unconditionally presented. Freely offered, both regular and special gifts must never seem to have been coerced by anyone—no undue pressure applied. Think of God’s willing-ness to send his Son, and ask how you might give freely and generously from his blessings to you. Collection for January 15th & 16th: Identified $23,751.00 Unidentified $ 1,070.25 Collection for January 22nd & 23rd Identified $16,889.00 Unidentified $ 1,228.36 Average Weekly Operational Expenses: $23,181.32 Knights of Columbus: Catholic men’s fraternal organization, focused on service, charity, prayer. The 2nd Thursday of each month, 6:30pm.
The blind man was willing to let Jesus minister to him and willingly did all Jesus asked of him. The Pharisees were more resistant to His message, spending their time and energy to disprove the miracle. Which am I more like, the man born blind or the Pharisees?
