LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, Thank you for your consideration of your 2011 Financial stewardship. Parish life depends on the generosity of good people who want to express their faith through a particular faith community. Our parish has been a home place for so many over 35 years. Each one has added his/her part to who we are as a Catholic community. As you think about my request for your financial stewardship, consider everything our parish has which came to be as a result of someone’s stewardship. Please join me in providing ministry to our parish through your financial stewardship, consistent, identified and generous in response to God’s first loving you. We make our financial stewardship offering NEXT weekend at all the Masses. Next week begins Catholic Schools Week in our diocese and parish. Our School is in its twenty-fifth year of providing Catholic school education and religious education on campus. We are blessed to have a highly capable faculty and Administration. led by Ms. Wendy Gilmore who was named Distinguished Principal of this year. I would ask your prayers for all who are engaged in this special educational ministry in and for the parish. Next weekend, the Presentation of Confirmation candidates will occur at 5:30pm Mass. Based on the Rite of Acceptance into the Catechumenate, Confirmation candidates are acknowledged in the parish as “learners on the way of discipleship” and the parish is asked to keep them and their sponsors in prayer. Please do this for these young folks. Birthing is not an easy process- but it shows our parish as being alive with the Spirit. A few updates: You may have noticed that the metal gates in the Learning and Growth Parking lot area were moved. This was to accommodate the road construction on Harrells Ferry. The Adult Faith Formation Committee recently met and is working on next year’s adult learning focus. On February 19th, Mrs. Lisette Borne will offer a Prayer and Study morning on “Praying with Scriptures.” Lisette, Deacon Dan Borne’s wife, is a trained spiritual director and speaker. More to come. I hope you will be having a good week ahead. Pray for one another and the parish. Love,

CLC Announces Valentine Event So what happens when you have a successful event? You do a repeat performance. Due to the great participation and wonderful comments concerning last year’s successful Dads and Daughters Sweetheart Dance, the SJV Community Life Commission is pleased to announce an encore. It will take place in Father Engels Hall on Saturday, February 12, from 7:30PM until 9:30pm. This year’s dance is open to all ages so if you are old, young, or somewhere in the middle, please join us with your Dad or Granddad. Also, the attire for this year’s dance is dressy casual which is a slight change from last year. There will be food and drink and a DJ will be playing a mix of classic songs and brand new favorites. Parishioner Melissa Foshee will be there to offer portrait packages for this memorable event. Tickets will be sold at all weekend Masses or in the Parish Office for $6 and they will be $8 at the door. Come pass a good time!

A REFLECTION ON THIS WEEK’S SCRIPTURES Jesus’ message to God’s people is a powerful one. He says that we should reform our lives, or repent, for “the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Beginnings are hard. To repent means to begin again. When have you made a new beginning? How can you make a new beginning today in some area of your life?

A CALL TO THE SERVANTS OF GOD : Born in the Spirit of Faith Giving Is Sacrificial We enter the Stewardship of Finance phase of our Total Stewardship program and invite you to give prayerful attention to the information you receive regarding this important aspect of spiritual stewardship. We encourage each parishioner to set aside a portion of God’s blessings for the work and ministry of this Parish church and to consider our Heavenly Father’s sacrificial example. God’s response to our need for forgiveness and salvation prompted him to give his very best, his own Son. Following the Lord’s example, giving is sacrificial. Hundreds of years ago, European Catholic missionaries left their homes and extended families, but they did it for our benefit, willing to sacrifice the familiar for the unknown to establish the Catholic Church in the territory we now call Louisiana. To a degree, everyone understands what sacrifice means. We willingly give of ourselves, our time, and our possessions on behalf of those we love. It is appropriate that we acknowledge our commitment to this stewardship effort should be, to some degree, sacrificial—a willingness to give beyond what is merely comfortable. As you think about your involvement, remember the sacrifice of Christ and our forebears, and prayerfully consider how you might make a sacrificial gift. Due to the holiday, you contributions will be in next week’s bulletin . Average Weekly Operational Expenses: $23,181.32 Children’s Church: Adults assist in presenting God’s Word to children K-4, at 9:30am Sunday Mass, twice a month. October through May.

The watch word today is “immediately.” Peter and Andrew, James and John all respond immediately to the call of Christ. May I be as open to God’s call and as ready to use my talents in His service as those first disciples were!
