LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, This weekend we welcome Sr. Lucy Silvio csj for the Prayer-Workshop day on Saturday, exploring Praying from Our Experience: Noticing God in Life and Responding. This is part of the series on prayer which is being sponsored by the parish Adult Faith Formation committee. A few years ago a parish Survey was done and one of the most popular requests was to offer experiences which would help people grow in their understanding and experience of prayer. So, here is another opportunity from a person who is considered to be an experienced spiritual director and guide in the spiritual life. This weekend, there will be some simple witnessing by some parishioners on financial stewardship. I asked a variety of parishioners to speak simply about why practicing financial stewardship is important to them and to the parish. We will make our financial stewardship commitment on the weekend of January 29/30. Next Saturday, January 22nd, will be the 38th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade. There will be a Louisiana Life March held that day from 10:00am-Noon, beginning at the Old State Capital. The march raises the profile of the number of abortions that are done in our state often without question as to the dignity of human life. The life issues are complex and are never divorced from human life situations which are difficult and painful. You are invited to take part in this march on the 22nd. Please also pray for the work of the Holy Spirit to change the minds and hearts of those who consider an abortion; and for those whose lives have been lost by abortion; and, for a conversion of thinking about life/death issues that affect our culture. Today in our country is a day of Penance for Violations of the Dignity of the Human Person. Also on the 22nd our parish will celebrate First Reconciliation for our candidates for First Eucharist. Parish life unfolds again in the sacramental cycle moving new lives toward full initiation in the ways of Christ Jesus through the Church. You may or may not be aware that beginning with the First Sunday of Advent this year, we will begin using some new “words” when we celebrate Mass. A new translation of the Mass parts for People and Priests has been completed. Some of the Mass prayers which have been familiar to you will change, even if only slightly. Starting soon, and continuing
over the weeks ahead there will be a regular piece in the Bulletin and on our parish website about what to expect and how to prepare. You can also go the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website, www.usccb.org and look under the Committee for Divine Worship, and Roman Missal for more information. Applications for admission into St. Jean Vianney School are now being accepted. I am very pleased with the direction and progress our School continues to make under the leadership of our Principal Ms. Wendy Gilmore and her Administrative team and Faculty. Our students consistently place very well in instruments which measure a student’s innate learning and applied knowledge; and, our students consistently place into their high schools of choice. Finally, our School is large enough to equip a student for the next level of learning, while being small enough to have that student known by name. This is our 25th year as a Catholic School; and, the School serves the parish with pride. We may forget that there are actually two schools on our campus. We have the Learning and Growth Preschool which has been on our parish campus from early on in the beginnings of parish life. Under the leadership of Mrs. Amie Williams, her Associates and Faculty, the Learning and Growth Preschool continues to provide a model program of learning for our smallest children. This year the Preschool is seeking licensing from the State which will allow some changes in the times of operation. The Community Life Commission is sponsoring again a Father/ Daughter Sweetheart Dance on Saturday, February 12th, 7:30pm- 9:30pm in the Fr. Engels Hall. This event will have music, food, photos, and dancing with your dad/ granddad/ daughter/granddaughter. Tickets will be on sale soon. Come shake a leg….. The same Committee is also working on a Parish Bowling event and a adult Dance for later in the Spring and early summer. I hope your week is going well and that you have a blessed week ahead. Love,
We extend our sympathy to the following parishioners who recently lost a loved one:

A CALL TO THE SERVANTS OF GOD : Born in the Spirit of Faith Giving Is Proportionate We encourage each parishioner to apportion God’s blessings for the work and ministry of this Parish church. No matter how substantial or modest, wise giving involves a select portion of a person’s income. Wise giving is planned and proportionate. Early Louisiana residents were burdened by storms, disease, pestilence and violence. Deter-mined to be shown faithful, they built our historic churches because they all did their part, and each one contributed at least a modest portion of income to the work of God. Today, people ask, “Is the amount of my financial gift really proportionate to my ability to give?” For sensible thought and action, everyone wants a workable starting point. For that reason, some decide to begin with an amount that is possible for anyone, contributing 1-2% of regular income to the Lord and his work. Others choose to contribute 5%. An established, biblical view of tithing encourages a regular amount of 10%. One thing is sure: Your commitment to make regular, proportionate gifts provides this Parish with a valuable planning tool, and that benefits everyone. Please prayerfully plan to give a regular, proportionate share, no matter how substantial, no matter how modest. Collection January 1st and 2nd Identified $29,586.00 Unidentified $ 930.96 Collection January 8th and 9th Identified $17,933.50 Unidentified $ 675.87 Average Weekly Operational Expenses: $23,181.32 Parish/School Men’s Club: opens to all men of the parish. Assists with the maintenance of the facilities and grounds on the campus. [Monthly meetings and periodic projects] Today’s responsorial psalm is the theme song of the good steward: “Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.” May I, too, stand ready to offer myself and my gifts in the service of God.

We love to hear from you… You would be amazed by the volume of information that flows through our parish records office each week! We appreciate everyone who updates records and lets us know when you move, get a new phone number, etc. All of this is very important for sacramental records and is essential for parish services. Quite often you might be “using up” old checks that don’t match our records. When this is the case, could you please note the situation on your check. Thanks for helping us keep our records up-to-date by: Informing the front office or Mickie Marchiafava of any address, phone number or membership changes. Identifying your tithing by check, cash in an envelope (with name and address) or simply use our visiting envelopes in the back of church. Confirming that you ARE registered in the parish. Parish registration forms are in the front of church. Thank you! Mickie Marchiafava, (225) 753.7950 or firstname.lastname@example.org
