LIFE TOGETHER Greetings!
We extend our sympathy to the following parishioners who recently lost a loved one:
Ola Adams and Barbara Jarreau on the death of
Fr. Tom is away on vacation this week, and he has given me the opportunity to tell the parish what the preschool here at St. Jean Vianney has been doing. The Learning and Growth center was created early in our parish’s life. We began as a mother’s day out program open only a few days a week. Through the years, the demand for a more structured preschool setting has been sought out by parents in our parish. We heard the call and began taking steps to create a more structured program, yet remain developmentally appropriate, extend the days of operation, and move toward a full day program. Several years ago the Learning & Growth Center became the St. Jean Vianney Catholic Preschool, with a full developmentally appropriate academic curriculum, three daily options for parents, and a time frame of 9:15 until 2:00. We are continuing to move toward a full day program that will have hours closer to those of the elementary school. We have completed our inspection with the Health Department, and we are currently awaiting that of fire marshal, and the State Licensing department. We look forward to extending our hours and continuing to offer a wonderful, Catholic based preschool experience for our parish families. The new school year is upon us, and the first day of school for elementary school students here at St. Jean Vianney will be Wednesday, August 10th. The preschool students will begin on Monday, August 15th. We wish all the students a safe and wonderful school year. Fr. Tom would like to thank our parishioners for their generous donations to the Missionary Appeal with Fr. Joy from the Diocese of Kerala. Peace, Amie Williams Director of Preschool
their sister, Frances Ducote.
Recommendations About Master Plan Project Given Members of the Master Plan Committee, Parish Finance Committee, School Finance Committee, Parish Council and Parish Staff met with Mr. Bernard DuMond of the Institute of School and Parish Development on Wednesday, July 20th to receive the Attitudinal and Financial Feasibility Report on the proposed Master Plan project. The results were very positive. The Master Plan Committee is reviewing the results and will make a recommendation to Fr. Tom about the next steps during the month of August. Thanks to the many, many parishioners who have been a part of this entire process. Stay tuned!

Since the beginning of July, we have been preparing you by Bulletin articles, inserts to the Bulletin, and brief informational talks during Mass for the changes that are coming to the Roman Missal to be implemented in Advent of this year. It is important to remember that the Mass itself is not changing, and only some of the Latin to English translations. Some of what the priest says will change, as well as, some of the responses of the people. Next week, we will begin taking you through the actual changes and giving you some catechesis on the importance of the words we say at Mass. These changes will not always be easy to remember and may seem very awkward at first, but it is important to remember that the Church is a living and breathing institution. These changes not only are more Scripturally inspired and accurate, they also give us the opportunity to re-look at something that may have become rote and resigned to the back of our minds much in the same way that we can sing a popular song while thinking about something else. This is our opportunity to look again at the way we worship publicly as a church and as an individual. Remember in mid summer we spoke about full, conscious, and active participation in the Mass— now is the perfect time to really examine our participation and learn through the new translations why we say what we do, what it means that we say it, and how do we take it from Church and into our daily lives. We are not only changing some of the what we pray, but we can also make a personal concerted effort to change how we pray. Again, it may be awkward to speak and hear some of these changes, but eventually, like anything new, we will learn them, integrate them, and hopefully see them manifest good fruit in our daily lives.
A CALL TO THE SERVANTS OF GOD: Born in the Spirit of Faith In God’s Strength, Lend a Hand Our Total Stewardship campaign is a wonderful opportunity to focus your interests in ministry within our Parish. In the course of this Stewardship of Ministry effort, we invite you to pray and think about the ways you might become even more involved. Each need you address, every life you touch, every opportunity you take to honor God through ministry is service on behalf of Christ and ministry on behalf of other people. Don’t overlook the simplest of tasks, the chance to serve a meal, to clean a room, to provide hospitality. “Born in the spirit of faith,” we invite you to put your commitment to work.
